  2. I've been busy dealing with life recently, but that doesn't mean I forget spending money on more or less useless automobilia :-) First, the Japanese L-series Service manual. I have it in various language, but never had "the original" one from JP. And since it popped up for a reasonable price, I had to have it. Then i got another Datsun Switzerland price list. This time from April 1980. As usual, you can find all of them scanned in high-resolution for free download, here Some may know my List of various Japanese L6 Intake manifolds, carb kits and Turbo / Surge tank kits. And thanks to a hint, I recently acquired this lovely Japanese printed ad from the very first FET / HKS Turbo Kit. You can read a lot about it in my Intake / Turbo surge tank post, here. Thanks to a hint from Mymechanix, i got a beautiful Differential strap. The originals are usually worn out, and this replacement belt from Aliexpress has the perfect fitments and dimensions. All other alternatives come either in a leather look or rubber, this one is much closer to the original design. Unfortunately the surface is glossy and has some prints on it (see the one on the left) so i will try to sand it down, to get as close to the original look as possible.

  4. Fiberglass repairs on the early scoops are very easy as is replacement of broken mounting studs. I've done several. I currently have one I'm prepping for JDM style headlight covers that has a few cracks that I'll cover with fiberglass cloth before moving ahead.

  6. Sorry about that friend. It slipped my my mind. I’ll make a note to check it today.
  7. Very cool components, DBW should solve a bunch of tuning / drivability (cool start, idle speed and tip in) issues with the ITB's. Look forward to seeing the results. Andrew
  8. @CanTechZ It's certainly better than mine, and it looks like it could be cleaned up, although I'm no body repair guy! @Yarb were you able to check the one you have to determine whether it's fiberglass or metal? What sort of shape is it in?

Good! I did find their phone number somewhere but it did me no good as all I got was a message and they never called back. Thankfully for PayPal!
  16. Parman posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Good you got your money back. It's weird they have no phone number available. 🤔 As soon as I saw this letter wanting me to cancel my PayPal dispute, and THEN they will refund me was a huge red flag. I immediately called PayPal and escalated my case.

I finally got my money back….all but 4 cents! Hahaha. PayPal wouldn’t help me as I was over their 180 day time frame, so I contacted by credit card company and they filed a complaint on my behalf….within a day DG returned my money. I would recommend getting your money back as soon as possible and go elsewhere. Good luck!

You're going to have to use a machine shop so why not let them get the guides? They've got access to all that kind of stuff. I worried myself to death looking for chrome faced rings like Nissan used for my standard 2.4 block and all I could find were steel. My machinist had them in 2 days. It's worth a call I think.
  19. Parman posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Yup! Same thing happened with me. I ordered a downpipe January 7th, assuming it was in stock. They emailed me the next day, saying it's been backordered, and it will be 2-4 weeks. OK, fine. 6 weeks go by, nothing. I email them about the status. My email is ignored. Another week goes by, I email them again, this time I get the 7 to 10 days time frame. A few more weeks go by. I get the run around. Now just about 3 months have gone by, I check with JDM CAR PARTS. They have them in stock and actually make the downpipe here in the U.S. wait, aren't both these places in California? Why doesn't Datsun Garage go to JDM and get my part and mail it to me. So, I file a PayPal dispute. Here's is a letter I just received from Datsun Garage.
  20. Or just log in... What's the point of using guest mode?
  21. Just thinking through the option of adding a longer duration of time that the piston takes too drop - that would occur with higher weight oil. Probably wouldn't be the way to address the issue, because it would only add say another second or so (just guessing), before the piston would reach the same point of travel (and the needle reach the same point inside the nozzle) where it goes really lean. I found I was able to tighten all of the nuts holding the carbs to intake manifold as well as the intake manifold and header to the engine. Some I was able to tighten nearly a quarter of a turn. I fired the engine up after that, and I got a wildly different AFR at idle. So! It was raining and I didn't want to take the car out. I will revisit and see if I tightening up those things has perhaps eliminated an air/vacuum leak.
  22. Thanks for the tip CO, I didn't know that other pages worked differently. I'll just start using the main Activity page now and avoid the aggravation.
  23. I love it when a plan comes together! Fully operational below dcoe throttle body actuator for DBW ITB. Mostly hidden!

I just went through the same hatch issue during my resto. Mine was also only an issue on the driver side. My body guy ended up bending inner edge of the hatch (the part that the seal goes on) to get the hatch to close flush. May not be the 'proper' way to do it, but it fits right and doesn't leak so I'm happy. I'm using an aftermarket seal.
  26. Oh, and something else changed recently... Couple days ago, this thread was not visible to me unless I signed in. Maybe the whole sub-forum of "website questions" was hidden to guest users? But today it's not hidden. I was able to view this thread without signing in. Obviously not able to POST in it until I signed in, but I WAS able to read it. Not sure that's how you wanted things to work.
  27. When I visit the forum, I use the "Topics Last 24 Hours" option. And I poke around without signing in because it's faster, easier, simpler, and I can do it from pretty much any location or device without having to worry about any security concerns. So it's safer. When Zed Head checked, I may have been one of the 135 people viewing the forum without being signed in. This is the page I start with: https://www.classiczcars.com/discover/20/?&view=condensed When I'm not signed in and I click on the "1 hour ago" link, it takes me to the first post in an 18 reply thread. - Undesirable However if I DO sign in and click on the same "1 hour ago" link, it takes me to the post that was made 1 hour ago. - This is what I want But regardless if I'm signed in or not... if I go to the All Activity page here >> https://www.classiczcars.com/discover/ and click on the "1 hour ago" link, it doesn't matter whether I'm signed in or not... It always takes me the end of the thread. (Again, which is more desirable, at least to me (and Zed Head).) So @Mike , the code is clearly in there. Signed in or not.. Just figure out why the "all activity" page operates differently than the "last 24 hour" option. It shouldn't be a cookie thing since it would work the same way for all users. And all of this is clearly a different discussion than "unread since last visit"... THAT most certainly requires cookies, etc. But the links we're talking about should not be a cookie or sign in thing.. And as for menu at the top. I like the way you have it now. It's there if you need it, but off the top of the screen not taking up any unnecessary space if you don't.
  28. Yeah, even for just another data point, it would be interesting to re-enable the throttle opener system to see what it does to the numbers when you let off the pedal and coast. And as for the rich blip... I'm not sure I understand your thoughts on experimenting with a heavier oil in the dampers than what you already have in there. It appears that the rich blip is already showing the dampers are doing what they are supposed to do. If you want an even deeper rich blip, or a blip that last longer (wider), then you would run heavier oil. But do you really think you need that?

Went out to the shop, decided to swap hinges on the high side, had a couple extra. Closed the hatch and it was waaay better, to within half a millimeter. Oh wait....I removed the weatherstrip in the corner to remove the hinge. I put the weatherstrip back on and right back where I was, 2 millimeters high. 🤣 Why didn't I do that to begin with? It's the &%$#@$%& aftermarket piece of crap weatherstrip they sell. Let me tell you something, I restored this entire car, sure I had struggles, but nothing compared to the struggle with these aftermarket hatch weatherstrips. Attempt #1: I carefully cleaned the weatherstrip of all residue, even scuffed up the area to be glued and cleaned again. Followed the instructions on that 3M super weatherstrip adhesive, did the corners first, taped it down. Next day, did the straight sections, taped it all down. Waited a couple days. All good right? I was doing something and happened to bump the corner, and it came off. It didn't stick! What? I gently lifted on the a section and it just basically fell off. That's where a 2 day nightmare started. Removing the 3M super weatherstrip adhesive, ☹️ It won't stick to this aftermarket weatherstrip at all, none, but have you ever tried to remove it from paint? Without damaging the paint? It took me 18 hours to get that black nightmare off. The hatch wouldn't close anyway. Every piece of aftermarket rubber I installed on this car with that 3M stuff didn't stick at all. So I cut sections of it up, and tried different adhesives. The best I found was goop. It's clear and it sticks way better. So, I ordered another hatch seal from a different place. Unfortunately it looked the same as the first, with spliced in "thicker bulkier" corner sections. That's the problem, I think, these spliced in sections. And that's where I am today. It really sucks. An old timer once told me, "it's made to sell, not to use".
  30. Done, I think it was your resolution but I was able to pull the menu down a little smaller so it no longer shows "More" thx for the feedback
  31. Parman posted a post in a topic in Body & Paint
Thank you for that. Here's a photo of the car when I got it, so I know it can be flush. There are some rub marks on the hinge, like it's hitting something down in there, "interference". I did replace the boots.....
  32. inline6 posted a post in a topic in Body & Paint
Have a look at this post in this thread. https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=79&_rid=2858#findComment-66409 Charles mentions that his hatch lifts up as a result of the interference he describes.
  33. My two cents. Put the Activity bar on top and move it from the more drop down. New users would not easily know where to go.
