Looking at MSD (6425) ignition to improve cold start / idle & low rev running. Is this an upgrade worth pursuing ? interested in your experiences (installation issues ? etc). I have the newer 280zx Dizzy. thanks.

I've been having problems with my 72 240Z. It started this past winter months, Came back home from Florida mid Feb.removed the coil wire and cranked it to circulate the oil, hooked it coil wire up, and it started. A month later, no start, dead battery. Recently I replaced the battery, and put in a new starter which I had for my other Z (10/69 FairladyZL). I installed a new voltage regulator from Motorsports Auto. It started right up. Drove it around, everything was fine, gauges working, battery charging. A week later, I went to start her up, heard the click of the relay, and nothing, except the noise of the electric fuel pump, the amp gauge was negative and the Tach was b…

I am in information overload here and I am looking for setups that have worked for others. I have searched and searched and with all the info out there on all the Z sites I can't determine what actually worked under what circumstances. I mean seriously, you can prove and then disprove the theory of relativity within a post or two in some of these threads. The short of it is that I am in the process of connecting an MSD 6AL with MSD Coil to a 280ZX Distrubutor in a '72 240Z with the original tachometer. The more complete version: I recently picked up a somewhat used Rebello 3.2L with triple Mikunis and have already put it in place... along with replacing the entire driv…

I'm in the process of installing a Pertronix on my '72. I have read so many conflicting wiring instructions it makes my head swim. One consistency, though, is don't leave your ignition on without the engine running or you canburn out the Pertronix. I can imagine a simple circuit, but I cannot design it. A relay that shuts off power to the Pertronix if it dees not sense an ingntion pulse within a minute or so. Resets with turn-off of ignition power. One of you geniuses out there can cesign it so it can be built for about $10, and save the rest of us the replacement cost several times over. How about it? BAM

Does anyone know of any wiper motor bag reproductions available? My motor is perfect but the bag is brittle and has over spray from the PO's paint job. Matt

On my 280Z, There is a small bundle of wires behind the passenger seat, by the door, that does under the rear deck to the rear lights and such. Right now the wires are exposed so you can see them if you tilt the seat forward, and it is held in place with something that looks like wide duct tape. Is that correct? I had a foot-long piece of plastic wire loom, so I put it on there so I don't have to look at the wires temporarily, but it's still not too pretty. I was thinking that a piece of carpet should hang down from the front of the luggage rail to cover the exposed metal of the body and those wires? thxZ

So, I am having some problems with my turn signal fuse. It seems it somehow blew out and is now blowing out fuses all the time. It actually melted off the original fuse holder and is being a PIA to fix. I was thinking of just pulling the wires out and putting in a panel mounted Here's the breaker I'm thinking of wiring it to . . Link to page Do you think this would resolve the problem?

Hello, I can't relocate a thread I read a few weeks ago which identified a plug with 2 black and 1 green wire behind the dash. I'm putting a new Radio in and the wires I'm looking at are under where the Radio sits with a 3 pin solenoid fixed to the left side bracket. The plug wasn't fitted onto the solenoid but it will fit. I've downloaded the colour wiring diagram but don't see it shown. Can anyone identify this or remember the thread which discussed it. Don't want to plug it in, switch on and see what happens. Thanks.

Does anyone know of a source for the rubber boot that covers the Battery terminal on a 280Z alternator? MSA has nothing, and neither does eBay. Is that something you commonly find at the JY on newer vehicles maybe? thxZ

Hey guys I'm fiddling with my buddy's 78 280Z and having a tach issue. His original tach seems to work fine until around 2,500 RPM's and then gets stuck. Sometimes it won't come back down for a while. I assumed it was a mechanical issue inside the tach but I'm not sure. I borrowed another used tach from a local guy....he said it supposedly worked when it was pulled a while back. When I plug that into place it actually works worse than the original. It takes several seconds for it to come up to the correct RPM reading and also won't seem to go above roughly 2,500 RPM's. I cleaned the wiring connections at the coil and the coil was a stock replacement that was just pu…

My hell super tones have a relay that came with them. I would probably need to replace the OEM one for the Hella one, but I am not sure. Better to be safe than sorry. THE FSM says the relay is located "on the left side dash side panel" Is that near the hood release handle? Also has anybody else hooked these up? Did you use the Hella relay or the OEM one.
