OK, now that I have my over voltage situation resolved it is on to the next problem. My horn and dash lights do not work. Headlights and map light do work. Brake light is working (laugh all the time the car is on) Not sure if the horn and dash lights not working could be caused by one problem or not. I will be looking at the rheostat for the dash lights. Comments? Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've read dozens of threads trying to find the answer to this, but most seem to be discussing pairing it with the 6AL, Mallory distributor or upgrading older 240z's... Is the MSD Blaster 2 coil plug and play for my stock '76 280z? (L28 EFI) Do I need the MSD 8910 tach adapter and if so, where do I hook that up? Pics would be appreciated.

Before I sent my Z to the bodyshop I pulled the dashboard to fix some cracks in it. I then re-installed it and replaced all of the gauge bulbs and made sure everything worked before sending it to the shop to get straightened out and painted. The headlights, turnsignals front and rear, marker lights, brake lights, reverse lights, dash lights, hazard lights, running lights, interior lights, EVERYTHING WORKED! Of course I re-removed all exterior lights for the body guy before he got it. Now that I have the car back, I have been re-assembling it. A few days ago I had all of the exterior lights re-installed and working fine. Just last night I noticed the turn signals stop work…

Hi All, before it is too late, cloned the oscillator clock z of a rally with 2 knobs. where are the experts in electronics? oscillator provides the 12 Volt power supply, or perhaps reduces the voltage to lower voltage? generates a square wave with a certain frequency and amplitude. electronic components are cheap. Here are some passionate electronics or who works in electronics? Opinions? suggestions? everything is welcome. thanks

I've had some issues with the water temp switch in the past on my 260, and have put together the below in an effort to help other owners diagnose issues with the system. I'm no expert and it's certainly conceivable that I've made mistakes with the below, or missed something somewhere, and I'd be happy to hear about it. Keep in mind that the only year I've laid hands on is 74, so other years info is somewhat speculative in areas and has been gleaned from documentation sources. Also, if there anyone would like to add info for years 75-78, that would be excellent. Respectfully submitted.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Water Temperture Switch - What It Does: Star…

i need a replacement water temp switch for my 1976, but unfortunately nissan doesn't make them anymore and i can't find any third party suppliers. i noticed that MSA sells a water temp switch for a '74 that looks very similar to mine, albeit with different connectors on the wires. has anyone ever used one of these to replace the switch in a 280? do the threads even match? being that one is from a fuel injected vehicle and the other is not, would they function the same? here are photos of a 1976 switch and the MSA switch:

I was giving my distributor a once over while I had it out of the car for my oil pump replacement, and while it was laying on the bench, I figured I would hook it up to a scope while I give it a spin with a screwdriver bit in my drill. Just to see what would happen. No real conclusions, but thought someone might like to see the pics. This is a manual trans 77 USA market distributor, but I suspect the waveforms for the pickups would basically be the same for all of the non-points distributors starting in 74. Here's my fancy test set-up: And here is the corresponding waveform. Important to note that the steep falling edge of the waveform is where the point on the reluc…

Hi All: Well, I'm massively confused. I've been reading a bunch of past posts and just can't quite seem to put the parts together. Reader's Digest version: '78 280Z, MSD 6A ignition, Holley 4bbl swap (all FI removed). Car runs just fine. Tach don't work. I used the magnetic pick-up trigger for the MSD (green/purple wires to distributor) and not the white wire. I still know which wire used to run from the old coil(?) to the tach (blue wire that runs to the in-line resistor). Q1) Am I correct in understanding that the tach on a '78 280Z is voltage driven? Q2) Is the basic problem that there isn't enough voltage from the MSD 6A to drive the coil and the tach? Q3) Should…

I know the antenna mast has been covered in many threads but I have a question that is probably to simple to mention and I do not want to get it wrong because these things are irreplaceable. I want to know what stops the aerial mast when it is in the fully extended or retracted position. The end is connected to the drum using a splitpin, if the winder keeps going then would the plastic cord not snap or is it strong enough to stop the drum from turning? Like most people my mast has snapped some time back on my 1970 240z. I pulled it from the car to replace the mast with an exact NOS replacement (on Ebay about 5 years ago if your wondering). The motor in the antenna is pr…
