Folks, I would like your suggestions on an ignition coil. I have 78 280Z that is running fine, but am considering replacing the coil due to the fact that I'm sure the coil is the original one and is showing some rust spots. Would you suggest replacing with an OEM coil or one of the 'hotter' coils? Thoughts? I appreciate any comments. Bob

Just wanted to give some notice to this guy and his web site. Daniel Stern-the actor- was in the home alone movies and many others, but I guess his sideline is Cibea headlights and wiring upgrade relay kits. I have been dealing with him and he seems to be very eager to help and the web site does a great job of explaining relays and how they work for our headlight upgrades. So if you want to do this job yourself, then I would recommend looking at his site for help. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/

On every wiring diagram I have the matix box headings are so blurry that I can not read them. I came across a copy thay was printed in 1973 and here is a scan of the section in question. Comb switch matrix.pdf

My front turn signals and dash indicators quit working. The rear signals work great and as they should. The hazard light switch is kind of messed up and doesn't work. The car is 73 240z. Could the hazard switch be the problem? It is the in dash type of switch. Thanks.

Ok, So I have been working on a solution to replace fusible links with blade type fuses, what I am looking for are female spade connectors that are the correct width as the original fusible links - these guys are a bit wider than what is readily available. If anyone knows where I can source these, I would appreciate a note. It really is a simple solution that allows you to keep everything looking stock and not hack up your harness. When I get these all done, I'll post pics.

I've got 72 240z that i bought about 7 months ago. I put in an l28 from a 280z with about 50,000 original miles and so everything is hooked up and I've been dieing to get this thing running seeing as it's my first car, but the thing wont start. even spraying gasoline into the carbs and sucking fuel up from the take isn't working. I still haven't tuned the engine yet so that could be a problem, but the one thing i'm not 100% sure on is the distributor. The manuals i have show which wires go where on the cap but there is no real reference point so i'm not sure if the wires are in the right ones. so if anyone could show a picture with labels for each wire going into the cap …

Does anyone know where I can get a distributor mount? I need that mount/bracket that allows the distributor to adjust with the timing, so far the best thing I found was this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150807232524#ht_500wt_922 but I don't know if this is the right one. I have an all stock July 73 240z. Thanks guys!

They seem to work fine, except when I turn them off, they park themselves in the straight up postion. Before I start takening things apart, anyone have a thoughts on whether the problem is most likely in the combination switch on the steering column, in the wiper motor itself, or when I put things back together after cleaning the cowl area, is the linkage messed-up? My service manual talks about relays, etc, but I'm not even sure where that stuff is. Thanks Gary

I'm ready to re-install my engine bay wiring harness. It's that last major item I need to do in the engine bay prior to engine installation. I got a new main harness grommet, but how do I get it onto the harness? The grommet is not that elastic and from both ends, there are fairly large plugs that have to go through it. I'm not sure how to proceed and don't want to damage anything trying to force things. Last time I split it and glued it back together, but I know that's not the "right" way... Will post some progress pics of the car in the next few days after the harness is installed. Thanks in advance for your help!

So I have been reading (and trying to help) some of our Zed-brethren with various electrical issues and while I was at a visit to Harbor Freight today I picked up a Cable Tracker circuit tester. This jewel works in two ways, one by std. Continuity Testing and second by sending a Trace Signal down a circuit that is picked up by the receiver. The Trace Signal is pretty cool because unlike continuity testing, it is 'active' and you can follow a circuit with the receiver until it drops indicating an open circuit. I believe that this would work well with a multimeter for clearing up some of the mystery wiring we have been encountering. Best part is that this tool is $19 (p…

The 1971 FairladyZ-L for a while would occasionally just make a single "click" relay-type sound somewhere under the dash when I turned the key to "Start" and the starter didn't do anything. I would turn the key off, and then try again sometimes with the same result. Usually it would work the second or third time and the starter would engage. We replaced the starter, the switch on the end of the ignition tumbler, and checked the battery. All those checked out okay. When it just made the click there wouldn't be any electricity at the starter solenoid b/y wire where it connected to the solenoid tab. I jumped from the battery to the solenoid and the starter worked. No…

I can't remember ever seeing anything about these. I don't know what their called. they are the bendable metal with rubber coverings that hold down the harnesses, wires. I cut mine out with a spot weld cutter and was going to redo the rubber. Can you buy or make the whole piece? thank you, TimsZ
