I bought my z from california few years back and it has this problem now and then. Sometimes starter just wont say anything, and if you wait like 20 secs, it starts normally. Starter is about 10 years old according to service history. Solenoid going bad or is the problem elsewhere?

'73 240z. New to Datsuns. I've got a few lights which are not working: heater controls, choke/seatbelt/fog. Tested the lights with a battery, they work. 1st image - shows unknown yellow power and black ground disconnected which is part of a group of wires running to this gold box under the glovebox. Accessory relay? The other end of these wires follows through to the choke/seat/fog panel. I put power to the yellow and I could hear a tick sound but still no lights to the panel. 2nd image - lights for the heater controls with the ground. These also don't light up. Connected to the accessory relay as well? How can you tell if a relay is faulty? Initially I had a …

Accidentally hooked the Engine Harness to the Dash Harness incorrectly in one spot and fried a wire. My car is a 2/'70 240z. The wire friend comes from the Engine Harness, though the firewall, and has a four-wire connector holding a Red, Blue, Blue/White, and Blue/Yellow. The Red wire is the one that is fried. Can anyone identify where this Red wire leads to? Was unable to discern from the FSM. Car cranks now but won't turn over. I'm wondering if this wire leads to the ignition coil. Thanks, I need to re-wire this single wire and don't know where it leads.

I cant figure out where to plug in the Yellow wire and Black/Yellow wire. I have been looking at the wiring in the book and I can see the wiper has a yellow wire and a black/yellow wire but do not see what to hook the wires in the pitures up to. If anyone can help it would be great. They are by the relays. The car is a late 73.

Ok, so the turn signals are not working on my 73. The electrical system is in good shape, everything lighting wise is working great but no turn signals. I have seen in other posts where the flasher unit is up under the streering colume and under the dash on the left side but I can't seen to find mine. When I hit the emergency flashers I'm getting the normal clicking but from the relay panel on the passenger side under the dash, just can't figure out which relay it is. Maybe it's a late design change that they did on the 260's, I'm not sure. I do know I don't see anything that looks like a regulare round flasher unit. Anyone out there seen this or knows where I can find it…

...been troubleshooting my lighting and haven't found this information in one place, anyone have a link to something similar? It seems that tail light patterns and bulb wiring configurations are different for 240s (obvious, right...) but subtle. I was searching for info that documented this. Found some interesting info... #1 - 4/71 (mine): L B/T/R (1034) | T/B/Haz (1073) R (1034) | Rev (1073) #2 - ebay set Unknown year (need to confirm lighting pattern): L B/T/R (1157) | T/B/Haz (1073) …

Yesterday I pulled out the water temp switch with the intent of replacing the 2 wires on it. The ground wire broke off right as it goes into the fitting (not wire to solder). Since its basically just a ground, if I fabed a washer with a ground wire and put it on the fitting as it goes into the thermo housing would this work? I'm not sure if the ground has to be intergral to the switch or if an external ground would work. Or should I just leave it non functional since it basically only affects cold starts. I have removed the EGR system from the intake by replacing the intake with a non EGR type.

Had to jump my car the other day but prior to that the lights would brighten as I give the car gas. I'm goin to try and replace the VR before replacing the whole ALT. The problem is that the orig VR has a wire spliced, it's a white/red wire from the middle column of the harness. Is this a common thing to do and do I have to splice the wire for the new VR. BTW looks like the wiring on the car has been fiddled with quite a bit. I really want to go with the MSA ALT upgrade but will the VR adapter still be a PNP set up because of this wire splice and how can I fix it? Here's a couple pics to better illustrate... the circles are where the spliced wire connects on the VR…

I've thanked you guys plenty for all your help, but I should also take a minute to thank Mike for maintaining the site, the means by which I'm able to rack your brains. So I pulled my dash harness, repaired the oddities, and with the Factory Service Manual in-hand, I've gone about the task of re-attaching it. In this process, a few questions have arisen: 1) What is this 2-prong connector? I'd normally assume Power/Ground, but it's the only T-type I found on the dash. I located it in the FSM, but it doesn't identify where it connects to. I'm having trouble attaching photos via the URL, so I'm going to have to do them by uploading... not sure what order they'll come…

Wow I am going crazy. I have a '73 z 4 spd(02/73 mfg date) with the elec fuel pump and 9 pin combo (headlight/wiper/washer) switch. -MSA alt upgrade killed my battery so after research realized that it keeps the fp relay on so I disconnected it. -MSA headlight relay harness. Lights don't go on but they did prior to my son installing a refurbished turn signal switch. Read Mike W's pdf and am going to try that. -I have a few relays on the passenger side and was wondering what is what. a. I realized the FP was the warm to touch relay. b. I have another relay that has 6 pins (2 rows of 3) with wires grn-grn-blk/ylw-2 blk in same spade. c.The pigtail also conne…
