78 280Z. Fuel and electrical systems are totally stock. Car runs fine. Should I be able to hear the fuel pump working when the key is turned to "on" or just when it's turned to "start"? Currently the fuel pump does not operate until I turn the key all the way to "start" (starter motor engaged). Search function revealed conflicting answers - perhaps the answer is different depending on year model. It seems to me that I used to could hear the pump come on when placing the key to "on" (years ago) and so I'm wondering if something has happened that only allows it to operate when engaging the starter ("start" position of key). Any help is most appreciated.

I have a 1976 280z. The only way I can get her to start is to tap the ECU with my foot while starting the car. Can I just go pull a ECU out of another Z the same year or so and put it in or does it have to be a set one??? I have not pulled it out yet to see if its just a bad connection or not but we will see. Thanks for your input...

I have a 71 240 Z (71/5). I replaced the dash wiring harness and have trouble with the turn signals and the hazard lights. The hazard flasher lights do not work. The turn signals only work if I turn the hazard switch to the on position. I have replaced the flasher. I don't hear the click when I turn the flasher switch to the on position. It seems also that the brake lights do not work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Lewis

Hello there I am probabaly needing a new alternator and battery for my 76 280Z. I believe these had the external regulator. I have heard I can use an 80-83 280ZX alternator with no mods except for the old regulator wiring? Is this correct? When I searched for both car parts, both gave me a 60 amp alternator. Also who is the guy on the site that sells the adapter piece or does a store sell it? Is this upgrade worth it? Thanks

I'm planning the Winter upgrades, and getting rid of my points dizzy is job #1. When I first got the car, a guy i bought a header from threw in this dizzy with the sale for $25. I didn't know what it was at the time, but now I know its not the E12-80 that everyone seems to agree is the best Z ignition system. However, I installed it while I was still getting the car running this past Spring, and it seems to work great, throws a bright blue spark, way better than my points dizzy. I kept my original points dizzy for this year because I was trying to stay as stock as possible, but I'm ready to upgrade. I have found an E12-80 dizzy in a local boneyard that I can probabl…

Hey guys, I just got through putting a Carter P4070 fuel pump on my 74 260, and that mother is L-O-U-D. The one that the previous owner had put on was pretty loud too, but this one puts it to shame. Anything stupid I'm overlooking? Anything I need to be sure to insulate with rubber? Because it's vibrating that whole side of the car, pretty much. I dismounted it and it was still stupidly loud, so I'm kind of at a loss at the moment. Figure there's something simple I'm overlooking. Thanks! *Yeah, I'm guessing it's something electrical, considering the gremlins my Z has.*

I found a 79 280ZX in a local boneyard. It has the E12-80 dizzy that I want to install this winter to upgrade from my original points ignition. The car has been sitting without running for about 12 years. The owner of the yard (who I've know for my whole life) says the car was driven to the spot that its sitting in. Any concerns with these dizzy's "going bad" from sitting too long? Also, can I use my existing coil/ballast resistor set-up with the ZX dizzy, or should I buy a new one meant for the E12-80 ignition? I know this isn't electrical, but....... The parts car also has a 5-speed that I'm thinking about buying. Its a NA 1979 280ZX. I don't think this is one o…

So I've been fighting my ignition issue here for a while and I finally decided to stop being a retard and grab my multimeter on my way up to work on the Z. As I posted in my previous thread, the car has been sitting for 8 years, the ignition system worked fine for a while until we got the car started for a couple seconds... then everything died. So at this point I've found that though the battery voltage is fine, it spins the starter plenty fast, I'm getting 4.5VDC to the positive terminal of the coil when the key is in the on position and about 7 when cranking. The tach no longer bounces when cranking. This is obviously not enough voltage to produce spark... at least not…

OK, my battery needed to be recharged as it died on me after 10 days or so of non use. I recharged the battery (w/charger) and noticed my 10 amp "Dome and Gauge Light" fuse was blown. I put a new fuse in and it blew as well, with the car turned off. Now, I shouldn't have any draw on that fuse with the car off, so I am confused. I hooked up a multimeter and noticed a draw of about 50 amps going thru the fuse terminals. I also checked the battery with the car off and noticed about the same draw on the battery, with the blown fuse out. A short somewhere? Any ideas of where to look? I just installed a new stereo, but the connections are not part of that fuse. I disco…

I was playing with my half shafts the other day and notice two wired going to my gas tank on the passenger side facing the front of the car. One was so lose it fell off with a touch. The connector looked like it would slide onto the terminal on the tank. The terminal on the tank looked like a short stub with a flat hat on on it. My issue is I cannot get the darned wiring connector back on the flat hat!!! I think my wiring connector is worn out. Is there a place I can buy another connector I can splice in? I can take pictures if that helps!
