My coil in my 76 280z was looking pretty worn, and my car has not been running so well. I replaced the coil with an MSD Blaster 2HV and now the tach will work up to 1000rpm, then drop top 0 once it hits around there. It will move but it only looks like it shows about 1/10 what the actual reading is. I could tell the car ran much smoother at idle with the new coil though. Why would a new coil cause the tach not to work correctly? The car has a CraneXR3000 and no ballast resistor. I have searched but all the tach problems seem to be related to 240's.

This is my first post, so don't be too tough on me. Early '70 Z Serial 01769, original owner, stock, except Petronix points replacement module. Even have the original AM radio. Here's what I've got: Where: Among the wiring bundle located under the dash, passenger side, wrapped in the snap-on vinyl cover. What: A WHITE/black wire connected at one end to a three-terminal white plastic connector shared with a GREEN/yellow and a YELLOW/green wire. This male connector is inserted into a female that has a WHITE, a WHITE/black and a blue wire. Problem: One end of the first-mentioned WHITE/black wire is adrift, hanging. The only thing that has stopped working is the radio, but th…

Okay, time for a stupid, stupid question. I have a franken-Z which I'm pretty sure has next to nothing stock. The body was made in April of '74, but...the head is a P79, the block is an N42, the manifold is an E88, the driveshaft is from a '71, etc. In other words, I have no idea what's original and what's not on this thing, other than what I just mentioned. I just bought it like 3 months ago. Now, I was told that 74's came with electronic ignition stock. My stupid stupid question is, how can you tell? Because for all I know, the previous owner put in a distributor from a '71 or something. What do I look for that tells me, 'Hey, this is the stock distributor and not one f…

Howdy folks. My mother owns a 240Z, though I can't remember which year it is. Like the title says, the wipers only work when it isn't raining, so if it's dry out they work just fine, but then as soon as it starts raining they stop. Sometimes even just using the washers will make them stop. Snow will also stop them. She has tried taking it in to a couple mechanics but none of them have had any success with it. Including an "electrical specialist" that she took it to. So I thought I'd give it a try since it's her only form of transportation at the moment. I've spent some time looking through the archives here and haven't found anything similar. Any thoughts?

This is on my '78 280Z. I suppose I need to post the car's saga on an intro thread some day soon; it's very...interesting. The wiring is FUBAR thanks to the PO...a cut-and-splice job from Hell. There's wire nuts in place of the fusible links. Anybody ever wanted to track down a PO and choke the living &^%# out of him while screaming, "What were you THINKING, man?" That's about the way I feel right now. Last week, I was working on the car and discovered there was no fire going to the injectors. "Fixed" that problem by jumpering across the plug for the EFI main relay. Fired right up after I did that and ran like a champ. Today I go to play with her and...nothing. So I s…

Well, as projected earlier this year, I've run out of female connectors that make the PLH "Plug and Play" for the pre 3/73' 240Z. So all Parking light upgrade harness's are now Hard-wire only. Unless someone can find me a whole bunch of the female connectors shown below. If anyone has spare female connectors that they'd like to sell me, I'll give you $1.50 a peice. That's more than I was paying for the brand new ones when they were available. Please contact me at wolfin32z@yahoo.com The good news is that the Hard wire version is still available for all S30's. But you'll have to cut just 1 wire and tie in my harness. It's very easy takes only a minute longer than the P…

Does anyone know where I can purchase some new relays? I seem to be missing one from where it should be. According to my Automotive Repair Manual it states that it is the Air-con relay. I brought one of the other relays in to autozone and O'reilly's but neither could find one. Just curious if anyone knew.
