I finally got my car back from the body shop after19 months...I have some electrical issues which I cannot figure out. After extensive use of the search option, I am stumped. Can someone let me know what the metal relays/flashers? are on the drivers side kick panel? One makes a crackling sound when I connect the positive battery cable (its not connected because there is a power drain). I greatly appreciate any help. Bill

Under the right side of the console is a white/red wire with a fuse and had "masking tape" on it. It was old and falling off so I took it off to find it had been nicked and nearly cut in half. This has been this way since the PO. We tested it and it is "hot" all the time, key on "lock" to key at "on". I do beleive it is for the ignition switch and the ACC switch with a 20 amp fuse, correct me if I'm wrong. My question is can this be soldered back together and taped or should I add a splice to have more wire contact? And should this be "hot" all the time? Bonzi Lon

I have a 1972 240z with a L28 engine swap. When it was done the shop left some of the 240 parts on the 280 engine, distributor, dual stand-up carbs and the coil. I have a spare 280 that I am trying to swap some parts off of, here is my question. The ballast resistor that is necessary for the coil to work properly is wired up differently from 72 to 77. If I take the coil from the 280 to try and match up with my 240, how exactly do I wire in the resistor. Stock 240 resistor only has one wire coming out, stock 280 resistor has two wires and is wired in differently. Can you tell me how to properly wire in the resistor.

Hi, I have a 240z 1972, I am building a new harness because the car i bought is missing all the electrical stuff, I just got the pretronix with a 1.5 ohms coil, If everything goes well i will be testing the new wires this weekend, so far i have the cables that go from the coil, alternator, starter, voltaje regulator, Amp meter, tachometer and the ignition switch, but i was wondering if i use the pertronix with the 1.5 coil do I still need the resistor? :surprised _____________________ 1972 240z stock Mexico City

As you can tell by my avatar, I got the motor and tranny back in this week, and tried starting today. It misfired a few times, but never actually ran. I think with some timing tweaks it will go just fine. I got very close, but I seem to have an issue in the ignition/coil/distributor region. I get really good, blue spark sometimes, and no spark other times. I'm using the original points ignition, and the car ran before I tore it down, so I believe all the parts are in good working order. I checked all of the connections at the coil, starter, resistor, distributor, battery tightened them all, replaced a few connections. Points spark good with the key in the on posi…

I have a 1978 (manufactured Nov 1977) 280z 2+2. I recently wrote a thread about "electrical weirdness" happening in my car. It ended up being my accessory fusible link burning up to a crisp, I believe because I used home stereo speakers in place of car speakers. Does anyone suggest, or know what the proper ohms/watts speakers should be so I don't burn up another fusible link? Is there a mod I can do that will allow my electrical system to handle big booming speakers?

Hi all, I am picking up a 71' 240Z tomorrow morning and have a VERY premature question to ask. I am an audio freak and was wondering if a standard size CD deck will mount into these cars. I have not even had a chance to dig into the car and I am already scheming away! Now for the important stuff! Was looking for an economical car (for obvious reasons) rather than the old 94' Suburban I have been driving. Got a good deal on the 240 and said "Why not?"... (like I need another project... :stupid: ) The car... Very straight (little bit of cancer on the left rear wheelwell and the driver's floorboard - will address those after I get it running again). Light hail d…

Can somebody post a picture of their 1975 Fuse Box Cover. Mine didn't come with one and yesterday I was looking at some of the fuses and they look pretty old and brittle. I would like to swap them out but I don't know what is what down there.

Hi all, Does anyone know if I can recharge one of the red Optima batteries? I heard that once they are dead... they are dead (ie: cannot be recharged). Is this true? Anyone have experience with these batteries?

I am about to put my wiring harness back in a recently painted engine bay. What is the proper way to prepare spots that will be a grounding point? If anyone has a picture of 2, that would be great. I have gone thru the search but did not find anything specific. Thanks for your help. Skip

Can some one give me some advice on trying to figure out how to get the head lights to work again on my 240z. Is there a relay on the passenger side kick panel that could go out? Drive lights work fine out but the turn signals only work in the front not the rear? So from what I got from another thread the light switch on the left should ground the wire so the head lamps come on correct? Waylon

I recently replace my wiring harness and the connector for the tach is for a 4 wire tach. My old wire harness was for a 3 wire tach. Does anyone know which wires go where? I have seen pictures but can't really make them out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
