HI All, I have posted re: this topic before but still have not had success firing up my '73 240z (9/72). When I turn the key the engine will turn over but will not fire. It will fire briefly with starter fluid but only runs for a few moments. I hear intermittent clicking from under the dash but that's it. I have checked the fuel lines and there is no fuel coming from the fuel pump. The fuel pump may be the problem or lines or tank... but other problems lead me to believe that there is no power runnning....well ...anywhere. The only power I have while the key is on is to the starter and to the headlights (no signals, radio, heater, interior lights, brake lights... no…

I can't seem to find it. Is it an inline fuse? If so, either it was ditched by the PO or I'm just not seeing it. Anyone know where it is located in the car? It's a '76 280Z. Also, is this fuse a single fuse powering several things? It seems to be in several diagrams that indicate it powers several gauges and warning lights. Gracias.

As you know the S30 has a dedicated battery bracket frame. Does anybody know/make a battery hold-down bracket to fit the Red Top Optima battery?

1st off I have a 1971 240z 2nd my hazard lights work fine 3rd Turn signal switch only has three wires to it. Green, wht/blk and wht/rd must be from a later model of car 260z most likely. 4th Combo switch is probably from 260z also, it has 12 wires to the singe connector. There are three extra to my harness that someone spliced the plug in on both sides. I just looked at a unmolested 240z plug and there are only 6 wires to the main combo switch connector. These are the following wires that are loose from the 71 wiring harness. Some I know what they are for, others Don't have a clue and the crappy wiring diagrams don't show them. For Turn signals: Gr/Blk---- right rear b…

I've read a lot of threads here about upgrading a 240z's ign to electronic with a 280zx dizzy. I decided to upgrade my 73 the same way and got an 81 dizzy on ebay for ~$20. I know that the later 280zx modules won't work so I looked up the part on the Autozone website (and Checker) and found that they list the same part number for 79-81, the picture on ebay didn't show the module clearly. Well as many of you have probably guessed, it's the wrong module. Before I start looking for the correct module I want to make sure that there's no way the 81-83 type will work. If it will work is the wiring the same? It looks like there's a second connector on the 81-83 module vs the 79-…

So this Monday, I'm headed down to Dave's (Zs-ondabrain) place to overhaul the electrical system in my 1970 240. What we've got planned: Headlight upgrade kit (Dave's product) Parking light upgrade kit (Also Daves) '81 Alternator swap Kenwood Head Unit MTX Thunder Elite 4 channel amplifier Polk Audio DB5251 5-1/4" component door speakers Polk Audio DB691 6x9" 3-way rear speakers MSA sourced rear hatch ported speaker panel MSA LED Domelight conversion It'll be an all day thing, but I've been planning this with him since November! Can't wait to throw it all in there! Right now I'm rocking some circa late 80's Alpine tape deck, 2 4" pioneer door speakers (only on…

I just bought an electronic ignition set-up that I think came out of a 77 or 78 280Z for my 240Z. I got the new dizzy, EI module, new rotor and new cap. My car ran before I tore it down, so the original points ignition still works. My question is, would you leave the points ignition in and get the car running again, then do the upgrade with the motor back in the car, or is it such a major improvement (and as simple as the seller described it) that I should go right to the EI now?

Hi all, As the subject says, 1973 240z stock ignition (well, a better coil, but the rest looks OLD). The car has run fine for months, no problems. Yesterday it cut out, and was hard to start. Seemed that there was no spark, checked it and it didn't. After a bunch of tries, it started, only to shut down suddenly. After wating a bit it started. Now, even when cold, it will sometimes run for a while, then immediately stop. Unless I turn the key comepletely off, it won't start again. Not every time will it start again right away. Runs from 10 seconds to 1 minute before stalling. I checked all the ignition wires, ran a few tests from Chilton's, the only issue I see is that the…

I am trying to start my 82 zxt parts car engine. It has not been started for at least 6 years. I changed the oil and filter, put marvel mystery oil on the cylinders (through the spark plug holes), and have drained all the gas from the tank and refilled it. I left it rest for about two weeks thinking that the mystery oil would have a chance to work it's way around the rings and perhaps even down the cylinder walls before I tried to start it. After installing a fresh battery, the ignition switch would only make a faint clicking sound that I don't believe was coming from the starter. So, I then removed the old spark plugs and shorted across the two large started posts with a…

Hi Fellas. I just bought a set of NOS Datsun Competition Sparkplug Wires on Ebay for $35 bucks (shipping included) and like to know if anyone is currently using these on thier Z or used them before. see attachment below -> Any recomendations on what Cap and Rotor would work best with them, read on the forum not to use with MSD of some kind, "..not recommended for use with the MSD box.". Is it also true they interfer with the radio signal? Figured they'd be good spark for the engine rebuild. ~Z~
