I have a '76 280Z that was running, but was left to sit for about a year. Now it seems to have a short somewhere, but I am at loss as to where to start looking. When I turn the key to ACC, things kinda seem to work. It will flip back and forth from accessories getting power to them going off half the time. However, honking the horn makes the tachometer go crazy (note that the car is NOT running at this point). Turning the key to ON and everything goes dead. All gauges go off, and I can't hear the fuel pump. Trying to actally start the car does absolutely nothing. Any ideas on this one?

I have a '76 with a Holley and an MSD 6al, no transistor ignition unit. The distributor I have is the Federal model with 2 pickups, each with a signal wire, 1 red, one brown, and then both sharing a common green wire. I can't get a conclusive answer about how to hook this up to the MSD, so I'm wondering, is there any reason I couldn't take the extra pickup out of the dizzy? Then the directions for hook-up are clear. Is there a different advance, curve, or any other difference? Since the California model only had one pickup, I was just wondering....... thanks

I just got a set of H.I.D. headlights. I'm not talking the blue halogen H.I.D. simulated bulb, I'm talking the actual high intensity discharge headlight with the control module for each light. I've never messed with these before and am not exactly sure how to wiring them into the car. My main concern is safety. I know the headlight harness needs a relay. That's the easy part. But as far as what else goes where... I'm a bit lost. Does any one have any suggestions? If you've done this before, I could really use your help.

I have a 71 240Z with 160,00 miles. The cigarette liter shorted and had no fuse. The wire burned and went all the way through the wiring system. I have taken the car to a shop and they want $1500.00 to repair with a used wiring harness. I don't want to get rid of the car because it runs strong and has extra clean interior. I also don't feel I can spend $1500.00 on the car. If I do the work myself (I don't like to work on electrical) I know I will need to take out the dash to put a new wiring harness. Has anyone out there replaced a wiring harness? Where would I find a new harness, used or new? Complicated I know. Thanks for any thoughts. Jim

Now, I consider myself to be fairly mechanically an electrically inclined. I am not an expert nor a veritable Z'sondabrain, but I have done some extensive electrical work on my car. Saying that, I can not, for the life of me, get my brake warning light to turn on. Yes, the switch is fine. The bulb is not burned out. The wiring diagrams are a JOKE. I have a 1972 240z. The FSM shows a Y/G from the hand brake switch going to the lamp. Check. It shows a Y/L coming from the brake block. Mine is Y/G. The Chassis Supplemental section shows the light connection as G/Y and Y/G. Check. The wiring diagram shows jack for this connection. How does the light get power? The l…

I think my alternator may be going on my 73 Z. I just installed a set of super white Piaa driving lights, and the work great. I also put in some H4 halogen light for good measure. When my driving lights are on, my headlights seem to get dimmer. The driving lights have their own relay and switch which is a plus. My amp meter is still to the right of the middle line. I know that Z's have weak alternators to begin with. Do I need to upgrade my wiring harness to install the more powerful GM alternator? Any thoughts?

My 72 240z has an electrical problem. there is a short that is making my battery drain, the headlights don't work, and the blinkers don't work (unless i hit the hazard light switch, then only the rear ones and just recently i got the right front one to work as well..but im pretty sure it's just a faulty switch). the biggest problem though is that i think my alternator doesn't work, im not positive, but when i jump the car, it'll run for around 5 minutes, so my theory is that the jump gives it enough juice for that amount of time, but then the car will die, im thinking because the alternator isn't recharging the battery. my real question is when i was driving the car, when…

I have gotten the second new voltage regulator now. This one looks like old style, but is much lighter. I had told napa, I wanted the transistor style, like the one I have been using. I guess they just put it in a can to look like the old style. Anyway, the new one has the white wire cut off of it. It is obvious it was never hooked to the buss on the back. Does anyone know what the white wire went to on the old ones? All I know at this point is, that this one works, so far with no problems:nervous: Oh by the way, did I mention over the last week. The choke cable fried pretty badly. It's a wonder there was only minimal damage. The short harness connecting soleno…
