Hey Everyone, I just replaced the stock distributor in my 11/70 240Z with a new 123Ignition unit along with a new Bosch coil. The car now runs great, but the tachometer no longer works. When the engine first turns on the tach jumps up a little bit, but then slams back down to 0 and stays there. Anyone have any advice on what I screwed up? Here's how things are hooked up currently (see image below for my wire numbering): [Black] The black wire going to the 123Ignition unit is connected to the coil negative [Black] There's another black mystery wire that was hooked up to the old coil negative, so I hooked it up to the same place on the new …

Hello, just want to share my today's experience - maybe someone can benefit from it. I recently had a heat problem with my combo switch connector so I replaced it and also had a go at refurbishing my T/S and combo switch. Everything worked fine and I was able to use my headlights again (one day I will add some relays there). Some weeks later I noticed that the voltmeter was behaving strangely. It was jumping up and down and then suddenly stopped doing anything. I checked the wiring diagram and saw that the hazards are also involved in that circuit and that the hazard fuse was blown. So I put a new one in and it immediatelly went up in smoke. After ripping apart…

I'm working on the map light in my 73 240z. The one in there was working but not now. It may be a replacement housing as the 2 wires (red & black) are spliced in. I am going to replace the bulb but the more I look at it the more questions I have. Does the map light have continuous power going to it through the red wire? Does it have its own line fuse? Mine does not have any power in the line even if I have the key on or lights on. Is the housing supposed to be black? Mine is white. Thanks!

I recently visited with @inline6 to see if I could help him with an issue with his wiper motor. Though we thought we fixed it, my meter readings said we still had a problem. It turned out to be a self-inflicted issue that @Captain Obvious helped me to understand. Thanks to @inline6 finding an old thread (linked below) and @Captain Obvious getting me to focus on the diagram in the FSM, I was able to develop a better understanding of how the wiper circuit works. I hope I can convey it clearly in this thread. Anyway, here is the thread @inline6 found: Page BE-17 of the 72 FSM shows the wiper circuit, but it is confusing because it is a challenge to relate the diag…

Can anyone recommend a turn signal rebuilding service? I would try it myself since there is lots of information here, but I am limited to one hand for the next 8-10 mths due to surgery.

Can anyone identify what this is and the purpose? 1973 240z-See photos. It's attached to the console under the dash near gas pedal. It has three prongs out the back. There is a three prong plug that may go to it, as it's just sitting there unattached for at least ten yrs. Wires are 2 black and one green. There was a dealer installed Ac that was removed and an aftermarket radio that PO had installed and butchered the wires. I have been slowly fixing them.

Thinking of getting the RetroSound RetroRadio M2B. Is anyone using one now and what is the opinion on it? I believe the last posts about this were 2010 & 2017 with faceplate issues. Looks like they make a universal one now. Link here- https://www.retromanufacturing.com/collections/vehicle-search/1973+datsun+240z+radios

Hey all! My 77 280z alternator and/or regulator have decided to go to Valhalla. I have a 280zx parts car with a good alternator so want to upgrade to the zx alternator which is internally regulated and delete the original external regulator. I've read all the DIY posts (which are all really well written) and am a little bit stuck. I'm seeing conflicting info on two of the best sites and wondering which is correct. I'm attaching pics from each site and pics of my connector in two configurations. Which is correct? I chopped off the regulator plug to keep keep the car-side harness intact so the colors don't necessarily jive (I think I had an aftermarket regula…

I noticed a burnt wire on my voltage regulator. Can I just clean it up and tape it or would it be best to track down a replacement or investigate a cause of the melted insulation? They are $84 at Rock Auto. The braided hoses in the background are to my oil cooler in case you are wondering.

I have not been able to get spark and have now figured out the black white wire that goes to coil + gets .15v yes .15v when key is on start. It’s a points dizzy. New coil. Points set. Green white to ballast 12v on start. Bw to other side of ballast 12v on run. Is the problem coil wire running through the tach and running into a problem there???

When I did the restoration on my 73 240Z I purchased a Pertronix ignition to replace the points system. I had problems with it at the time, so I decided to go back to the points system temporarily until I got everything lined out. Got the car up and running late last year and everything seem fine. After setting all winter with only occasional starts, I started having starting problems. To make a long story short (after much frustration) I decided to try to go back and install the Pertronix system. I wanted to be sure it was functioning properly before injecting another problem into my already frustrating situation. So, I called Pertronix to see if there was any way t…
