Hey all, I just purchased a 1977 280z. The car runs but it looks like a monkey wired it. The previous owner must of been an idiot. The major problem I have is a lack of windshield wipers and horn. I need both of these to pass state inspection to put my Z on the road. When I got the car the previous owner had replaced the ignition switch with a brand new OEM unit and the wiring harness under the steering wheel was exposed. The seems to be no loose wires but then again I honestly do not know what I am looking at. Any ideas where I might go to start debugging these problems. The other major electrically issue I have it all my gauges with the exception of my Speedo do not wor…

Hey, Just finishing up my final little things to get this car on the road. I was checking my lights and determined that my brights werent working properly. My driver side light it burnt out. The passenger side will light up, but will not switch to brights. When I hit the switch, the light get slightly brighter, but it is just as if more current is going to the bulb and its not switching bulb circuits like it should. Anyone have ideas how to fix this. I have the electrical diagram from chilton but its pretty much useless. I konw that on old VW vans goofy things would happen if you had a burnt lightbulb. Will this fix when we replace the lightbulb, or do I have to …

Hi Guys, I have had the usual issues with left indicator working intermitedly and solved this issue by opening the moon shaped switch that the indicator stalk goes into and cleaning it up, strectching the spring and re-installing. At the same time I was hoping to fix the switch for the hi/low beams and damaged it beyond repair. I was wondering if this same switch is found in a 280ZX or any other Datsuin models? It was available new from some Datsun suppliers up until a year or so in Australia so new is not an option anymore. The switch I'm talking about is the square one pictured below with the long plastic "pin" sticking out!???

Hey everybody, Rockr69 here with yet another type of fusible link conversion. The donor car is an 86 Maxima (trying to keep it in the family) I found while cruising my local pull and save. I know its not a maxi fuse type of box, but it works for me and I got a bunch of extra links while i was there. Not that i think I should need them, but who knows? Any way here are the pics. What I really like about this conversion is that it ended up looking bone stock!

any ideas why my car keeps drying out batteries? I was having charging issues a few weeks back where the battery kept drying out. I replaced the battery cuz it was old anyway & today the new 1 is dry. It's only at the most 3 weeks old so I'm thinking it's the car.

I have searched all over for the blower motor to switch wiring harness jumper . My manuals do not cover it or any thing Ive come across . I've replaced the entire loom , rebuilt the combination switch (signal & wiper), added headlight relay, electric cooling fan & relay , etc. The problem is the used loom is missing the jumper (6 blade to 6 blade + ?) from motor to switch. I would really appreciate a diagram , picture , or schematic that details it out for me ! Thanks in advance for your time. Tom

I own a 1983 280ZX, non turbo. I removed my AFM and found a stray wire. I traced it back to a little cylinder mounted beside my ignition coil. The left side of the cylinder has a wire that enters the harness beside the ignition coil leads. The end of the wire is a female that needs a flat prong to connect. Any idea what the cylinder is and where the wire is supposed to attach?

So, I am heading down the highway on the way home from work, exit the off ramp as per usual and at the stop light, I notice smoke coming from the hole for the turn signal. Holy :tapemouth ! (I think to myself in an oh-so-calm manner...) So I cut the lights and it does not seem to go away, so naturally I blow on it. Am I attempting to start the fire or stop it??:stupid: After a bit and a lot of watching, said smoke goes away. I watched this damn thing more than the road I think, it never reappeared. A few miles from home, I key on the parking lights, still nothing. Ok, try the headlamps. Still no smoke. I get home find the nearest phillips and remove the plastic upper …

While driving my car the other night (73 240) the connector for the ignition wire coming off the solenoid disconnected (it's in bad shape). Anyway, the car died, I found the prob, reconnected it & it started back up fine. My problem now is the lights went all wierd. 1st all exterior lights worked & all but the temp/oil gauge inside. I turned the lights off then on again & it started working again. Then within a matter of minutes ALL exterior lighting went out. Also all of the gauges except the speedo & volt/fuel are now out. The T/S & hazzards also. What is goin on? I thought it might be the combo switch & went to swap it with another I have but, i…

Well, I was driving on the freeway, and it was VERY VERY HOT OUTSIDE. I decided to turn my car around and head home for the day. I was sitting at a stoplight and when i took off, my car made a HUGE backfire and all of a sudden all my gauges except for my MPH gauge went out. I looked at the fuse box and the third down from the left top was blown. I put a new 20 amp in there and turned the car back to on, and then bam it went out again! What's going on here guys? Did a wire blow up and now i got a short? Please help me!
