Hello all. I am putting my Z back together and I have all the wires connected except for a black wire on the turn signal side and a red wire on the headlight switch side. Do they go into each other? Or, where do they go? My production date is 10/70. Thanks all. Rick.

Went out to the shop to start up my Z Car and got an ugly surprise. When I turned the ignition switch the engine starter engaged and the engine fired for about 2 seconds then the starter began a loud whirling noise without engagement. Even worse than that was the fact that when I turned the key off the activity continued. So I opened the hood and pulled the nuetral disconnect terminal by the battery and no effect. So I grabbed a wrench and pulled the positive clamp off the battery. Wow! So if any members have experienced this I would like to know where to start (no pun intended). Starter soleniod? Ignition switch? Both? Thanks!

Hi all, am looking for a good used tach for my early 70 Z. Don't want to go aftermarket, as the speedometer and tach won't match and I want to stay original anyway. Any ideas?

When I got my ZCar the first thing I tested was the tail lights and brake lights and they worked just fine. Since I got the car I have really done no electrical work other than replace some bulbs and take off the heater console cover to replace and see what is inside. I also removed and reinstalled the clock. I have also washed the engine compartment since I got the car. Now, for some reason, the tail lights and brake lights don't work at all but when I depress the brake pedal (whether the car is on or not) the interior dash lights and the front parking lights light up. They turn off when I take my foot off the pedal. I finally got a test light and started poking aroun…

My instrument panel lights are all gone. Here's the story. I had a fusible link in the engine bay that had been bent around so much it had pretty much gone to crap. I found this out because one night when I turned on my headlights they went out and so did my dash lights. I eventually figured out the problem was the fusible link. When you give it a little wiggle the headlights and dash lights would come back on. Anyway recently I turned them on and they all went out again. I popped the hood and moved the fusible link and the headlights came back on. When I got in the car I noticed the dash lights were not on. They have never come back on again. I finally got some new fusib…

OK, here's one for you guys. I recently installed a stereo in my 280Z and came across this 'relay' against the passenger side strut tower. I suspect it is some sort of fuel pump shut off to the electric fuel pump as one of the wires lead to a toggle switch on the console. Well of course I had to figure out where the other 3 of the 4 wires go that come out of this relay. One is grounded on the front of the car, one is connected to the white wire (in picture) that hooks up to the battery and the last one dead ends 2 feet from the relay. The one connected to the battery has an inline fuse that is so corroded I think the relay stopped working for the PO some time ago. M…

I'm going to cruise the salvage yards soon, looking for an E12-80 ignition module to replace the E12-93 that was on the '83 ZX engine a PO put in my 240Z. Seems to me that this module came on '79-80 280ZXs, some Maximas and maybe some 210s as well. Any other Datsun models I should look for? Since many of the local yards aren't pick-n-pull, any particular years I should ask for? (Yards around here seem to ask a higher price for Z parts than they do 210 parts.)

My 74 260 has just recently become afflicted with an electrical problem. It seems the battery is not being charged correctly. WHen I rev my car up, the amp meter shows a rise in current, but not much. Alternator has been checked and its fine. This issue is also affecting my fuel pump. For some reason the electric fuel pump isnt pumping at all. Battery is brand new(less then 2 weeks). I have a voltage regulator on order, but the fuel pump issue is making me think it might be something else. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue?

Hey guys, I have attached a picture of the wires along my steering column. As you can see there are 3 wires that are not connected. One is green and yellow, the other is green with white, then you can see another green and yellow hanging there with a connector on the end. Some of my electrical symptoms: Depressing brake pedal causes dash lights to illuminate No power to the 'flasher' fuse circuit under any circumstance Headlights aren't very bright and the left one is dimmer than the right I've looked at wiring diagrams but am not skilled enough to draw meaningful conclusions from them. Are there any obvious things I should go look for based on these sp…

I remember seeing a wiring diagram for our zcars but at the time i did not have a color printer, i have searched all over the place, i know it was on this site. Hopefully someone can help me find it, it had the entire electrical layout of the 280 as the car sat from above. Anyone remeber seeing this, any help would be aprreciated.

Hi all Newbie here. This week the gauges and choke indicator light on my 73 240z went out. I checked the fuse box and noticed that a 20 amp was shot. I replaced it with another 20 amp fuse, and immediately after that I was unable to start the car. I can jump start it, but without jumper cables the car can't start on its own even after I've let it idle for a while. After reading the posts around here I now know that using the alternator to charge the battery is a no-no, so I'm off to buy a battery charger. If that doesn't work then I guess it's a new alternator and regulator for me. Can anyone tell me why replacing a fuse would cause this though. I'd still like to replace…

Anybody have any interest in an original European Spec Dual-Point distributor? It came in a box of parts I received and is complete minus plug wire cap. Has vacuum advance, both points (+ one extra, brand new point), and complete distributor body. Does not have any play in bushings. Solid unit. Asking $75, including shipping.
