well.... i don't know what happened, but all of a sudden my brake lights quit working. it's not the bulbs and there aren't any obvious problems. coincidentally (or not) when i turn on my lights the left connector of the "tail" fuse gets hot and has since melted the plastic (GRRRR).... HELP! this is my daily driver and only car, and before anyone tells me to search i already have to no avail.... anyway, thanks

Hi everyone. I have a '70 240Z, manual trans, pretty stock. Prior owner had pretty much neglected it (left it sitting in a garage), then jerryrigged some stuff, painting other stuff black before selling it to an unsuspecting buyer (um..me). Since then, I've had the carbs remanufactured, ingnition coil replaced, voltmeter cleaned up, gas tank dropped and cleaned, and now I'm tackling the electrical stuff (BTW, I'm a Biologist, not a mechanic or engineer, but I'm willing to learn, which is a big reason I got this car). This car runs really nice now, and outside of placing insulation padding under the carpet (that topic is another thread), possibly replacing the air cleaner …

Does anyone have the correct wiring diagram for a Crane XR700 Wiring Diagram for my 1973 240Z? My car came with one installed, and it seems to be working alright, but I can't get my tachometer to work. I don't know if the tach is fried, or it's just hooked up wrong.

I was going to ask you guys what the advantages and disadvantages of switching my distributor for an electronic ignition would be but I'm beginning to feel really stupid. Is there an auto 101 website that I can go to? thanks

Did the lead-end on ignition coils on early Z's ever face the opposite way ie. towards the windscreen. Sure I've seen photo's showing this ?

I have been trying to get the windshield wipers working. After taking the steering column cover off, the headlights didn't work. Moved the wires around and the headlights came on. I checked the voltage on the wires coming from the switch to the wiper motor and I am getting 12+ volts between the black ground and the blue/red. But nothing on any others. Then I checked the voltage to the windshield washer motor and got no voltage there. Does this mean my problem is the switch? Does anyone know what the voltages should be?

Any ideas on what to replace old headlights with? Can't see very far and want to upgrade but I'm concerned about the wiring/power pull etc.

Well where to start, well I have a 1973 240Z. When I first got the car the running lights and dash lights did not work. I put in a new fuse and they worked but it heated up and blew (on right column third fuse down). So I did a vinegar cleaning and all is well there. Although, I re-hooked up the battery and I went to turn on the car. The car cranked and almost started twice, and then after now after that the cra barely cranks at all it just cranks for 1 second or so and stops, with successive tries it barely makes any noise at all. I also have problems with the low beam lights. When the low beams are turned on all dash and running lights turn on except for low b…

I am having troubles with my left rear brake light. I just replaced the stop light switch, but that only fixed the right brake light. All my blinkers, hazard, tail, and head lights are working. I think its the hazard relay switch but am uncertain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hunter
