Im trying to chase down why this 280z tach does not work unless the RPMs are +2000. I found that there is this capacitor that has peeled away it’s shielding. Does anyone know how to identify them? It does not appear to have any significant marking on it. It’s the little teal one.

Hey all, I did the transistor ignition unit upgrade as described here: Given this though, I have had some problems after doing it. Given that I have a '78 I don't seem to have a resistor below the ignition coil but I think I wired the HEI module in correctly. I think it is correct since it ran for over 6 months, and the last 7 weeks of that was the car being driven daily. On the 7th week though, problems began. The car became slowly harder to start taking longer and longer to crank until it eventually stopped firing all together. I have checked and the car has fuel and air, just no spark. It's been a while since I had to drive my '78 in the dark. The stock sealed beam headlights had me squinting the whole way to work. As soon as I got there, I ordered some 9" glass headlight housings with replaceable H4 55/60 watt bulbs. After installation and alignment, they're only a little better. I've upgraded a '95 Tacoma similarly and bought 80/100 watt bulbs for it. It was a great improvement. Can the 280 wiring handle 80/100 watt H4 bulbs?

Hi, I'm looking for a picture of the original/factory battery cables + and -) for the 240Z. I tried to find this information on internet but every cars i found have different cables... Also, cables are the same for all years, or they are different between series ? Thank you for your help.

My wipers worked erratically, then stopped completely. For a while, I was able to get them to work by slamming the hood, or rapping on the hood latch. I assumed the motor was bad, and started to research the Honda wiper motor conversion. I decided to remove the old motor and take a look before I ordered anything. After studying the cryptic wiring diagrams, I decided to try and bypass the relay mounted on the wiper motor and go straight to the windings. When I did this, the motor ran very reliably in both the low and high speeds. I took the cover off the relay, cleaned all the contacts, and it worked fine! I reinstalled the motor on the car, and it works better than…

So today I’m tearing down a points distributor to do a cleanup on a 5/70 Z. Single points. D612-52 I get it apart and there staring back at me is two advance weights and only one of them has a spring attached. Hmmmmm... Must be missing, broken, lost sometime in the past. No sign of bits laying around. Need to find a replacement spring. Go get a spare. Post Aug 71 points, but so what. Look inside, two springs, but they are much larger diameter and looked stretched out. Go look again, find that very last D612-52 that is identical to the one with one spring, open it up, and ..... One spring. No pieces laying around. Ok, is it me or are these things …

I am noticing that everytime i try to crank the engine on my 72 240z when is cold i hear 2 to 3 clicks. I do open the choke to 3/4 but somehow i can still listen to those clicks failing to crank the engine. Battery was bought 6 months ago but i normally crank the car once a week every sunday. Starter may be failing? Once the engine cranks and i shut it when i crank again there is no more clicks as it starts up right away. Where do i check? I didnt had these problem before.
