Hello In my ever-increasing frustrations to restore my car to as original condition as I can possible get it I am currently going through the engine bay wiring admiring all of the chopped off wires and aftermarket connectors (seriously, its not all that bad). Id like to ask if it would be possible to supply photographs of the following areas: 1. Wiring at the starter motor. 2. Wiring from the main engine harness to the starter motor. 3. Rear of alternator. 4. Wiring from the main engine harness to the alternator. 5. Wiring from the engine harness to the oil pressure switch. 6. Connection onto the oil pressure switch. Please note I am after original/correct details in each…

My son just bought a 280Z. (can't remember the year - first year they were fuel injected) He thought it would be an easy fix to get this car up and running... The previous owner had attempted some "half-fast" repairs and we're going to need a lot of help. Most pressing are 2 points I hope someone here can help with: 1 - No power to fuel pump. (At least I think...) The two wires connected are supposed to deliver 12 volts with ignition switch on? I can't find a fuse for the fuel pump. Is there a fuse? Is there a relay? Is it safe to "jump" the fuel pump? Can I connect it to a 12v source to see if it spins? What is the polarity? 2 - The former owner re-wired the fu…

Hello all, I am currently in the middle of a very simple install of the MSD 6AL ignition system. I have a 72 240, with a 280ZX electronic distributor with E12-80 Ignition module. Does anyone have any tips, or tricks that might make me avoid a headache? wiring schematic? Also where have been the best places to mount the MSD box? I have it temporarily located next to the clutch master cylinder under the acces panel. Thanks for any helpful tips. Dave.

Hey guys, i am trying to get all of the electrical work done (while i wait for the pans to get welded) and i have big problems. When the car is on acc i turn the lights on, and the side lights and the two orange front ones go on and just stay on, the front headlights dont go on at all. Also, the left and right signal switch doesent seem to be working, i move it up or down but the signal lights dont do anything. (plus they are on, just not flashing). Any ideas? Thanks.

You have probably heard of this problem a million times before but I need help. My battery is draining while driving. At first I thought it was the stereo but I disconnected it all and still have a problem. I know it is not the alternator, as that was my original suspicion and I have already forked out for a new one. The charge is reading at about 12.5 volts over the battery when the car is running. My starter motor is on the way out (could this be draining power) I say this because on long country drives I don't have a problem, but after a few continuous short city trips, my car will not start. Headlights, indicators etc all work, just will not start. Also my headlight f…

Have removed the rear LHS quarter panel to remove the dead PO installed power aerial. Looked down inside the panel to see two filler worms poking into the inside. The position looks like where the side marker would have been. As this car is an Aussie Series 1, I thought that they didn't have side markers? The RHS side has no provision for them but the LHS has two spare conductors hanging out of the wiring loom What the????? I guess that the LHS rear end could have been replaced with a later model panel due to crash damage, but that doesn't explain the conductors??? Any clues. This car has a build date of 12/70.

Here's one for you electrical gurus. I have just got my engine bay wiring loom for my 1970 z out of storage, where it has been for about 10 years. A lot of the electrical connectors look as if they have mild corrosion on them. On any other car I would probably give the connectors a blast with with WD40 and try my luck, but knowing how critical the condition of the electrical connections can be for a z I wondered if there was any better way of cleaning up the connectors on the loom before I refit it to the car. The loom is in good condition otherwise. Thanks for any help/experiences Andrew

Here's some background. The battery is the Optima Red Top Performance sealed with 925 cold cranking amps. Alternator is charging fine. When the car sits for a while, like say a month, I go to start it and it's dead. Is is possible the radio is draining the battery? The radio has a program memory so it can remember your stations. There's an itys, bitsy red light on the radio that remains on after you turn the car off. Once the battery is charged and you run the car around, it fires up for days, but let it sit for any length of time (more than two weeks) and nothing. Can something thats so minute be killing my battery or could there be another cause? I can let my 7…

Yesterday my l28et swap was fine (engine running), until today when I try to started it again. Key in "off" position the voltage is good at 12V, but as soon as I turn the key to "acc" the voltage dropped to 5-6V(unstable) then to "on" it's reading 0.60V . From "off" to "acc" I could hear the relay on the passenger side clicked. Have anyone have any problem like this before... also when ohms out from ground to 12V fuse box @ "off" it read 1.5k @ "acc" 90ohms @ "on" 50ohms
