Trying to figure out if my problem lies in the wireing or the ignition switch. I have the 280ZX conversion in my 240Z. The wireing diagram says that start goes to the tach and then to the coil. On the other hand, the conversion wire diagram says to bypass the ballast resistor and hardwire it to the start wire to the back of the tach. I see no such thing. (got the wire diagram from www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/StockToZXIng.jpg ) as I think a lot of us did. I am adding a pic of the back of my dashboard so you guys can see what I am talking about. If you have any questions for me please feel free to ask if it will help sort this whole thing out. Thanks

Today I started started on swapping out my 240z 4-wire tach internals for a 280z 3-wire. I've already figured out the wiring, so that's not the issue here. Have any of you guys found a trick to getting that second PCB off the back of the tach housing? In the tach from the 240Z it was glued on by some bondo-looking stuff, and I only managed to get the board off by using a punch on the hardened-putty stuff from behind (and shattering the PCB on the other side of the putty in the process). This isn't a big deal, since I am swapping it out anyway, but the 280Z tach has the same stuff holding the back board down and I certainly don't want to damage this one too. Attached…

hello to all: I have been fighting the dreaded turn signal problem which has been discussed so much on this board. On my 240z all turn signals work except the right rear. I have tried cleaning the switch, replaced the hazard switch, replaced both flasher relays, etc. but have had no success. I decided to run a new wire from the turn signal switch (green wire/black stripe) back to the lamp. This fixed my turn signal but now when I step on the brakes, my right turn signal indicator on the dash lights! I then decided to tap into the wire at the hazard switch (red wire/yellow stripe) and still get the same results. I know how most of you feel about screwing with the fact…

I've obtained a beautiful example of, unfortunately, a late combination (Lights/wipers) switch. Question. Has anyone ever worked out the wiring/connector differences between the early/late switches. I'm looking at perhaps fabricating a jumper that will enable me to use this switch on my early Z. I really just want to get my headlights working properly again.

I need to diagnose and fix whatever isn't working with my windshield wipers. Lately, click the switch (which is brand new) on, nothing happens. Before I replaced it, they would work occasionally. So I figure it's time to start tracing and checking, and the first place I want to check is the wiper motor. Where is it? I looked in the bay...and my guess is underneath the cowl, but I'm clueless as far as removing it goes. I figure while I'm doing this, I'll fix my horn, too. Thanks in advance, all, I LOVE this forum

Anyone know what this thing is on the back of my 260Z speedometer? The red wire goes into the housing and to the center bit that goes around and around. See pics.

My 16 year old son is swapping out a bad ignition on a 1980 Z and where it is clamped to the steering column, there are 4 screws holding it on. Two of the screws are not accessible. They don't have heads for screw drivers, or they are capped. Do we need to drill these out? What's the best way to get them out? Any suggestions would be appreciated? This is our first experience with Z's.

Just curious to know what the advantages and disadvantages of the maxi fuse block are, and i read a technical article about the installation, but it stated for racing only...? why not for use on the street? i have a 73 240z and a "joe somebody" "renewed" it, and he wasnt a proficent mechanic, and i havent found any fusable links in any of the wiring harnesses.. hummm.. but after reading the article it seemed worth while and seemed like i could splice into my harness, with or without the links. dont get me wrong my car runs ok, just 30+ yr old wiring could use a break. i tried searching the forums, but nothing came up either. Thanks Dan
