I was driving from the MSA show on Sunday night and it was raining pretty hard. I didn't listen to the stereo the whole time. Then when I was driving to my college that night I turned on the stereo and it looked like the deck was working because the lights were on and it was playing the track, but no sound was coming out of the speakers at any volume. Then today I turned it on and it works, but once I turn the volume up or down a little, there was no sound once again. I don't know what is going on. I am thinking some rain may have shorted some wires, a bad fuse maybe. I'm not sure. If anyone has some suggestions or has experienced this before, please tell me. Th…

I have a '72 Series II 240 and was wondering how difficult it is to transplant an electric distributor (heard the best year was a '76) to eliminate the need to keep adjusting the points. If anyone has done this let me know things like cost(if professionally done), difficulty, tools needed, exp. time if I do it myself, etc. Thanks

Hi all, My Pertronix ignition arrived today. I've installed these before on my 66' Mustang, so feeling experienced, I strutted out into the garage to complete the 15 or minute job. Wrong! Now maybe I installed the thing wrong, I'm missing something obvious, or (and most likely) I'm a moron. But the wires that go from the ignitor module through the dizzy housing and to the coil are too short by several inches. I at first thought that Victoria British sent me the wrong kit. A trip out to Petronix's web site however, confirmed that part # 1761 is the right kit for a 70-73 240Z ( I happen to have a 71'). My coil is in the stock location so that can't be the issue. Assum…

hey I'm trying to figure out if my ignition leads are stuffed, and am using a multi-meter to check the ohms in the leads, which i was told i was supposed to check... I checked the leads by taking off both plugs and using the needles to against the metal part of the leads... they have come back quite irregular, with readings, 11,11,8,7,9,9 and the lead from the coil to the distributer being only like 3, Not sure if that is supposed to be like that, but i would assume the longer leads have a differant resistance or whatever its called, I'm not a electrician, and no basically jack all about electronics, so just asking what should i be checking for and if i am even checking…

After (finally) getting the broken bolt out of the alternator mounting bracket, I'm ready to proceed with installing the new alternator. When un-installing the faulty alternator, I failed to document/draw what connected where. I figured, (go figure), that it would be easy to remember. Two of the wires go on the engine block side of the plug, the plug plugs in, and the remaining wire connects on the opposite side of said plug. The Haynes manual doesn't help a novice like me, since I don't read elec schematics. Any/all help appreciated. I'm posting a pic of the back side of the alternator and a pic of the four connectors. Thanks!

Thanks to Alan T, I discovered that our 240Z bumpers have two pre-drilled hole underneath them for the mounting of fog lights. See picture below, courtesy of Alan, of position of holes for the optional fiog lamps. Now my question is, can anyone else share any pictures of their own driving/fog light set up. I am unsure whether to go for the rectangular lights as above or to go for the circular variety. Thanks.

A couple of weeks ago some one posted a wiring diagram of both - The stock 240 Tach diagram & a ZX diagram for ZX electronic ignition swap. The diagram for the ZX showed how to hook up wires to make the 240Z Tach work again with the ZX ign. However... I installed a '78 280Z electronic ignition in my '72 240Z. Does anyone know how to hook the Tach up for that swap?? - Jeff

Z Friends...I really need help on this. I started the Z this morning and it quit after few minutes at idle. Tried to restart it and it would turn over but would not hit at all. It is getting gas. Car sat for a few minutes and restarted. Amp gauge bouncing all over. Stopped running after about a minute. Will not start or hit at all now. Couple days ago I accidentially touched jumper leads (new battery dead while sitting out 5 month project). Car has aftermarket electronic ignition. Have I cooked it? I'm also thinking the diodes or fuseable link may be the culpret? Any ideas would be most appreciated:stupid:

I just got this fuse box to replace my melted fuse box in my 72 from Rick Hanson at hmsports.com (smooth transaction, good deal!). I figure from my observations, and from reading other posts on this site, that the reason my current fuse block started to melt was because the contacts became corroded which caused them to create resistance, which then generated heat. I was pretty lucky to be able to find one that was not melted and didnt seem to have a corrosion problem, I may not be so lucky 10 years down the road if this box has the same problem. so, other than the obvious of cleaning it up, are there any things that any of you could recommend to prevent this problem from…

I believe I need to replace the fusible link for my starter. The Haynes manual doesn't really say anything about it except to put it in the wiring diagram. Can anyone give me a clue on what I replace it with and how I replace it? Thanks

Does someone have a 280z wiring diagram in electronic format? If so, can you send it to me? I have a member asking for one. -- Mike
