My 1971 Z has a problem with the heater and rear defogger only running intermittently. I traced it down to a relay on the kick plate on the passenger side of the car. Can this relay be repaired, it sounds like there are contact points inside or does it need to be replaced? By the way it gets constant power, it just doesnt always allow current to pass to either the heater or defogger. It always 'clicks' but no power is passed to the heater or defogger. Any ideas where I can get this relay? I doubt a Nissan dealer would have such an old part. Thanks

So, it came with NGKs and should stay with NGKs, but what about the iridium, or platinum, or anything else? I'm in NY, so I have temperature variations between below freezing in the winter to well above hot in the summer, and I have a higher output coil and some decent spark wires. Should I just stick the 6es in there, or upgrade to something else? Thanks in advance, Chris

Okay I have been asking around about putting in a 80' 280z distributor in a 72 240z. I am putting in the ps60 crane coil out of MSA, spark plugs, wires, all along with the 80 distributor and the 1280 module. I have had several people tell me that they had no problem. They just attached the tach to the new coil and took the ballast out and just connected the wires on opposite sides of it. Pretty much just follow thehttp://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html link. The part about installing the distributor is about a half of the way down. In the picture its show a performance coil getting hooked in with the newer distributor. At the end of the section it says h…

I have an electrical problem and I don't really understand the wiring diagram enought to figure it out . Every time I put a 10 Amp fuse in the Domelamp slot, the fuse blows immediately. Without the fuse, a voltmeter shows about 13 Volts across it. The clock, speedometer, and tach backlighting work but the other gauges, domelight, choke light, glovebox light, and map light don't. Where do I start?

It's obvious that My alt in my 72 is on it's way out. Would I benefit from a slighty higher output alt? VickyBrit offers 2 choices. but I'd like it to look close to original. I could just get one of my old units rebuilt. If you think that paragraph is confusing, you should see the mess in my head!

Everytime I try to start my car it turns over and will start to run, but as soon as I let go of the key it shuts off. I can get it to stay on but I have to hold it between start and on. I thought it was the ignition but I am still getting the same problem can turn it over and keep it running but not with out hold the key just at the right angle. Let me know what you guys think it could be. Thanks Frankenstein Z

What's the deal w/ the alt / v-reg / amp meter in the 73 240 Z? Here's the problem: Car runs fine if the battery is charged up. Disconnect the battery and it dies. I disconnected the main wire on the alternator (the one with an 8mm nut) and put a v-meter on it and grounded it. Only measured about 4.5 volts. I would expect that I could test my alternator like that, but I may be wrong. Is there any way you can test an alternator w/ a volt meter? Or do I need to go to a shop that has more avanced equip? Also, where is the amp meter in the car supposed to sit when it's running? It is the one that shows -60 and +60 amps. I do a lot of work on VWs and just got this …

I have a '72 240Z with a Crane XR3000 ignition system. Everything functions fine:classic:. I upgraded over the weekend with the addtion of a Crane HI-6TRC. Now the tach does not function:cry: . Does anyone out there have expereince with the 240Z type distributor and the Crane HI-6? the HI-6 does have a "tach output" but I do not believe this is what the 240Z tach requires. Any suggestions appreciated.
