New stage II L28 in my 240Z with automatic trans. Got new mechanical fuel pump installed yesterday and took a test drive / grocery run. Trying to put some break-in miles on it. AF ratio looks good, per builder's spec., not smoking or lean while driving. Runs good except stopped in drive. Starts cold easily with some choke. Problem is in gear (Drive) with the car stopped at a stop sign or in traffic. It tends to stall. I cranked up the idle, it's supposed to have higher idle due to the cam. I set the idle up even higher, 1500 rpm in neutral or park, so it would keep running when stopped in drive, but there was some run-on when I shut off the engine. I figure the run-on is …

The lever on the column of my '72 240Z does not activate the high/low beams. I am stuck in high beam mode. The turn signals work, but the lever flops loosely from front to back. I haven't had the thing apart to look at it yet, but this will likely be my first fix on the car once I bring it home (it's hidden at a friend's until I give it to my son for Christmas). I'm sure I can find a video to show how to remove the steering wheel and expose the internals on the mechanism, but I am concerned that I might not be able to find the parts I need. The guys at MSA told me that they don't think the thing I need is being made by anyone, and they certainly don't have it. Is it …

I know we have discussed this before, but I could not find the thread with multiple searches. I was looking for original brand and pictures of original battery from the early 70's. Thanks JLP

Well after one mechanic shop telling me he wasn't conformable working on my 76' 280:ermm:. I bought it to anther to finally take care of my turn signal problem. Currently the hazards work fine but the turn signals don't work at all. I got a call from the new mechanic yesterday. He told me that I have a hazard switch from a 77' Z and that it'll be very hard to get the job done without the proper hazard switch. The one I have has only green wires with different stripes in them and one black wire. He told me the correct one has a blue wire, which is the power wire to the turn signals. I looked online and can't seem to find any hazard switches for 75-76 280z's. I did find…

Is there a trick to getting the phillips head screws out of the starter body that retain the brushes? I have two gear reduction starters that no longer work properly, so I was going to at least take a look at the brushes, but I cannot get the screws out. I tried an impact screwdriver with no luck.

I have an early 72 240Z. Doesn't look like anything's been tampered with and have had no electrical issues previously. I recently disconnected the negative battery terminal to remove my steering wheel, and when I reconnected my battery my seatbelt light is flashing and when I sit in the seat or touch the throttle the taillights also Flash. I don't think it really has anything to do with sitting in the seat or touching my throttle I think it's the shaking of the car which makes me think it might be a short somewhere. Thinking nobody's ever had this specific problem but maybe somebody can give me an idea of where to start. I'm not an electrical guy and not sure what to do.…

Blowing fuse 1 2 3

Hi guys, I know there is wiring diagrams for research. Which I have looked at. I have a circuit that keeps blowing a fuse. The scenario is that I have a 71 240z I switched from automatic to manual ( I don’t this this is related) I keep blowing the Domelamp/Luz/instru circuit when I press the washer button. I believe this the instrument cluster as well who’s the only movement from gauges is the amp while trying to start. The wire coming from the fuse box looks to be red with blue. If anyone has any suggestions of where to look that would be most helpful. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I have been in the process of stripping a car to it's shell. The wiring harness is removed and the engine will be pulled soon. While I am waiting in queue at the body shop, I thought it would be a great time to check and fix any electrical problems in my wiring harness but electrical circuits are not my strong suit. Is there a way to apply power to an engine harness by using an external source such as the battery or an external power supply without burning it up? If I can do that, thought I could bench test connectors, headlights, taillights, dash, etc and fix anything before I install it back in the car. Thanks Gary

I'll try to give you a little history and my problem. Had the car since 2000 ,put an LS1 /T56 in it plus other mods one being the headlight relay up grade . So I drove the car and wore the motor and decided to redo the whole car . So the car is all fresh now paint ,wheels ,motor , tranny , ect . So my old dash harness was pretty much cut up and I got a clean one from Ebay. So I used my old headlight harness and just spliced into the new one. But now no headlights, parking lights, and the two headlight fusses seem to be grounded . I can't figure out how to fix it . Any help would be greatly appreciated

If interested in refurbishing your 40+ year old tail light lens here are the steps I took with mine after removing the exterior rubber gasket: 1) Before disassembly of the light unit (lens from body), mark the wiring harness left and right. Then number the individual plugs. 2) Remove the bulbs. 3) Remove the metal retainer from the light bar center post as it protrudes from the backside of the body. Please not that if you are planning on reusing the bar, removal of the retainer might require ruining it for reuse. On the other hand, if you are going to replace the bar with a new one, just do what you have to do to get it off. 4) In a sink filled with hot water fully s…
