Is it just my luck, or am I not the only one. I purchased the MSA kit. Plug and play they said. I hooked everything up per instructions. Turned on the parking light switch and I can hear the relay click but that’s all that happens. No lights to dash no lights front rear or side markers. Checked all of the connections. Changed back to original connections and it works. Plug in the kit again and it doesn’t work. Start writing to this forum.........wait a minute am I getting battery power to the relay? NO!!!! Go to the battery, connection is good. Go to the inline fuse. Fuse is good. What could it be? Put meter on the battery side of the inline fuse. $&@!?&$ no powe…

Engine was running but no lights, tach, etc. There's some confusion about what wire goes where. There's a green/white wire, some others, colors faded so not sure. Don't have a good photo of how it was. It's the harness for the coil, ballast resistor and distributor. There's also some wires for deleted smog stuff. We've got the schematic but it would be a big help to have a good photo of stock wires. It's a '73 but I think '72 was the same.

Has anyone gotten a decent upgrade for the 280Z wiper motor? I mean something you can get from a post-1985 vehicle, which is when they used the waterproof motors. I have a wiper motor from a 1997 Escort ZX2, and the bolts align almost perfectly with the holes on the bracket, and the shaft fits the linkage just right. The Escort motor is a DC motor with a ground, and switched 12V connections for low- and high-speed. It also has auto-park without the extra swipe the Datsun motor makes. Yes, I cleaned and lubricated the linkage and pivots, but the speed is still just too slow. I used DeOxit for the pivots, and it worked very well.

I have a 260z with some electrical issues. I was going to try and replace the wiring harness and purchased one off e-bay. The under dash harness on my car has a label with the part number 24013 N3600 but the one I purchased has a part number 24013 N3601. They both seem to be the same so I don't understand the number difference. Is there a list somewhere with the part numbers used on the 260z? Jeff

Continuing to clean up and refurbish a lot of the smaller items on the resurrection project so when assembly time comes the components will be ready to install and work. The horns and brackets are quite rusty. Bench testing the horns with jumper wires -positive to spade terminal, negative to clean mounting post-produced no results. Took one of the horns apart and very surprised how clean everything looked inside except for the green corrosion on the two contact points. Cleaned and reassembled but no results. The contacts are both tight together on the spring arms. Any helpful tips? The tension adjusting screw did not want to move easily so I left it where it was. …

I have a 1974.5 Datsun 260Z. I Have completed the wiring upgrade from Datsun Dave and that was a nice improvement over the stock harness. Next step is replacing the sealed beams with an new option. I searched the forum for past threads but they all seemed to be at least a few years old. What seems to be the best option for an upgrade. I would the best value for my $ that is also reliable. As far as the H4 options I have looked at Hella and Cibie and can't really determine if there is a major difference in the quality of the light. I would appreciate your thoughts about any experience you have with these or other options. Thanks!

Background... I've done the alternator upgrade using the MSA alternator / voltage regulator adapter and it works just great. I've also removed the mechanical fuel pump and installed an electric pump back at the tank using the pre-wired circuit and this also works great. In another thread regarding the alternator upgrade on a 73 240 there's a caution about cars with electric fuel pumps that can cause battery drain without an additional change. The question... I jumpered the connector with an inertia switch in the console for crash protection. The connector in the console area gives power when jumpered to the pre-wired electric fuel pump circuit that's in all the 240Z…

Just happened (edit: prob inaccurate as it may have happened longbefore I started using the park lights. See resolution on post #34) . As soon as the fuse touches the box it lits then blows. Haven’t touch anything electrical except pull the radio out which wasn’t even connected and that was a week ago. Checked the wiring behind the radio but saw nothing that would cause shorting. Could someone kindly provide some clues? Thanks in advance. 12/71 2.6 block E88 heads triple weber 3/2 Mallory Abarth Tokico 1-3/4 sways

Well, its about that time of year to put the Z away for the winter. It has been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks and it is around 40 here today. Turned the key and got nothing. I am not too surprised since the battery is pretty old and its cold this morning. No big deal, right? So I put it on the battery charger for 2 hours. When I turned the key to try it, I immediately heard a really loud pop and vapors came out from under the hood. I was really shocked to see that my battery had exploded!! Not only did it blow the cap off, it blew a big chunk out of the top and broke out one whole corner of the top portion. The explosion was so powerful, that it…

Can someone tell me the physical path of the wiring for the rear window defroster on my 78 280Z. I recently purchased this Z for my wife and the recent cooler weather led me to find that the wiring isn't even making it to the connectors on the glass and would like to have an idea as to where the wiring is suppose to be. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
