I recently acquired a 71 240Z. The car was sitting for the better part of 4 years however it started on first turn. The gentleman who owned it before did what's necessary to keep it in running condition. Although the car was drivable it would occasionally hesitate or sputter in 3rd or 4th gear at cruise speeds. It was evident there was a sediment in the fuel filter. I decided to due a tune up for good measure and ordered major tune up kit from MSA (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/12-4700). I changed the fuel filter first then started the car to ensure it started. Success. I then went to work on changing out the ignition parts. As I took the plug wire…

Hello all, Ive been going thru my 78 280z engine harness which had a harness fire and i am fixing that. This is not a question on how ot install an E fan, the question comes up because while going thru the wiring diagram, i found a connection that says that it goes to the electric fan sub harness. My z came with an aftermarket E fan, but it was not plugged in. Can i use that connection shown on the diagram for my efan? Ive looked online and cant seem to find anything that mentions a stock efan for 280z. Also, on my thermostat housing, i have what it seems to be a sensor that would control an e fan. My Tstat housing has 4 sensors, the ECT, the gauge coo…

The turn signal switch in my 240z is actually a "restored" switch I bought in April 2015 from Parsignault Parts on Ebay. It has worked flawlessly up until April of this year when the right side rear would not blink but the circuit would turn off the brake light. So when I was at a stop light with the right turn signal selected, my right front turn signal flashed but the right rear light was dark with only the left brake light on. With ZCON coming in June I wanted to get this taken care of. After some troubleshooting I determined the problem was with the switch, UGH! The switch was not completing the rear turn signal circuit when activated so I carefully opened up the …

So after I completely took off all of the previous owners wire hacking and replaced the modded hazard switch with another one I had laying around, the hazards and the brakes worked regardless of the random wire that came from the positive terminal that also gave power to the rest of the other guages. So now I'm stuck because the "STOP" fuse blew and I replaced it right now and my hazards don't work still. Do you guys have a solution for me?. I also wanted to know how I could fix the rest of the guages since this black wire off of the positive battery post was giving the guages power. I wanted to at least fix the (stop/hazards) lights in order for me to be able to dri…

I have a 1972 z that sat in my garage for 25 years. ( I know! Why?) Last year I got it running and driving. The problem I developed with my gauges was that when power was first applied at startup, the fuel gauge would respond then slowly drop back to E. I could not find anything wrong with the sending units. After taking apart the gauges I found that there was a poor connection between the tiny wires that heat up and make the gauges register and the studs that connect to those wires. The easy fix was to clean the contact points between the stud and the tiny wires, then soldered them together. Hope this is helpful anyone with similar problems. I soldered the fuel, oil and…

First off I searched and couldn't find this exact situation. I did the swap from the old 40A/ext. reg. and it was very easy but now I have no battery charge. Of course I never bothered checking the charge state with the old alt/reg installed. I used the diode plug for the old regulator wiring that MSA sells and followed the instructions for the install of the new alternator. The alternator is a rebuilt 1982 ZX unit from Advance Auto. I also replaced the frayed fusable link for the wire from the harness to the starter/battery so that's good. All tests were while the car is running. 11.8v across the battery. …

I need help. I am working on all of the little things that do not work on my 1972 Z (production date 7/72). My seat belt warning light is not working.I have multiple wiring schematics but none of them show the wiring for the seat belt warning light with the retractable seat belts with the pressure switch in the passenger seat. In my testing last night I have found that the circuit is open on the seat belts when they are in the retracted position and go closed when the seat belt is pulled out. The passenger seat switch is normal open closed when pressure is applied. Anyone have a working diagram of the wiring? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JLP

All, 78 280z, EFI. There is a relay that is under the glove box, right next to the vent pull knob. I dont know what is for, but it clicks when i turn the steering wheel. It only clicks when the steering wheel is at a certain position. If i go full lock either way it does not do it. Does anyone know what that relay might be and why it would click when i turn the steering wheel? Thanks,

Hello, the tachometer on my 78 260z has a 3k limit and picks up rather slowly. I'm running a ps92 coil. Are they supposed to work with this setup? I'm not familiar with the wiring but I know I have a wire doubled up on the positive of the coil and the installation instructions for the xr700 show tachs coming off the negative. I'm not sure if the tach worked before i installed the xr700 unfortunately. many thanks.
