I was going to order a new lens for my map light in the heater console since mine is missing. Does this piece just pop in place? My switch has the spring in it, so i'm assuming that is the spring they are referencing? I thought this is the rocker type push button map light. One side is fixed so to speak and the return of it to flat is done via the spring loaded switch? http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/4424748

Maybe this has been posted before, not sure so I thought I would share. I recently picked up a second console with a defroster switch and choke plate that I needed for $75. I figured a spare console would be good anyway. When I got home I realized the switch was frozen. I put some lube in it, freed it up and cleaned it with electrical spray. Tested for continuity and nada. I recently rebuilt my headlight switch and wondered maybe this was similar. Sure enough it was. With a small screw driver, gently pry each side out and slowly lift it out. Be very careful not to lose the small plastic tip and spring. I did! I had to rob one from an extra defroster switc…

I decided to pull the dash out of my Z to fix some hack job wiring done by the previous owner, and I'm confused as to where a few of the connectors go. I'm working on the part of the harness that drops from the center of the dash down to the fuse box and choke/defroster/seat belt light, and the PO cut some of the wires so things are difficult to figure out. Where do these connectors go? I suspect that this connector goes to the choke switch. It's wiring is red/blue stripe and black. The red/blue is snipped, and it looks like the rest of the wire is in the harness closest to the connector (as pictured). The choke switch connector is red/blue and red, so this worries …

Fog lights???

Did US cars come with fog light option? On my 71 I notice the hole above the flasher for it and by the horn wires the red and black wires look factory tapped still. I checked the owners manual and there is no mention of fog lights. I'm assuming I can source a fog light switch and the wiring provisions are in place?

Right TS quit months ago. Tried sandpaper and VOM but no luck, no time to delve into it. Been using hand signal and being extra careful changing lanes. Now it's working again. Maybe the gremlins have seen the error of their way and are trying to make amends. A "new dawn" in the way mechanical things interact with us, maybe. There might be an explanation, but I've got nothing.

Does anyone have any experience with the mini battery booster packs that are popular now? The older ones were about the size of a small briefcase and weighed like a toolbox, but these mini things are smaller than a carton of eggs, and boast up to 100 Amps! they usually have a 5V USB outlet for a phone, and a USB inlet for charging, LED lights (red, flashing or illumination, etc.) but no hand-crank or air compressor like the older bulky booster packs. It would fit well in the Zed almost anywhere, like in the tool bin, but you'll still need to charge it occasionally. It might be a good thing to have in the boot of the city car for the winter, but since I keep m…

Hi, I have a 5/71 that lost a headlight. I replaced it with a fairly inexpensive standard 60w replacement. While I was driving, I noticed the headlight switch was getting hot (slight heat/smell/smoke over the steering column) so I shut them off. It is a low mileage car so rust hasn't worn any connectors. To my knowledge, none of the electrical has been opened up in any way. I was curious what my options are. I saw that MSA sells a headlight relay harness. HID looks fairly complicated but should draw less current. Any recommendations? Is my switch toast now? Thanks in advance. Gary

I'm about to wrap up what is (for me) a fairly exciting project on my 240Z, and I thought it would be nice to share, as it's not something I see discussed here very often. The goal: retain AM radio function in my Series 1.5 (5/71, so series 1 drivetrain and dash, but no hatch vents) 240z, while being able to pair with my phone and stream music over bluetooth. My materials: a class D one-board amp (bought from a guy who calls them "Shiznit", hence "U_Shiznit" in the wiring diagram), 50Wx2, a handful of relays, a line-level bluetooth board, two Match M5X speakers, and a spare speaker bracket from another 240z. My modifications: I created a switched output fro…

I am currently in the middle of trying to install an auto seeking AM radio in to my 1971 240z. I did not remove the radio from the car it was in and do not know the order in which everything came off. I am trying to figure out if the metal plate goes in between the heater control panel and the plastic radio face plate or if it sits behind the heater control panel. When I have the metal plate in between the control panel and face plate there are not enough threads on the shafts to screw the nuts on to. Having the metal plate behind the heater panel does not seem to make much sense but I just don't know. I Googled this several different ways and cannot find the answer …

1973 240z. Was working on the heater and came across this toggle switch stuffed in behind on dash on the lower right side. Any idea as to what it would control. It's centered and will toggle up and down but always returns to center. I was thinking maybe for the antenna. Thanks
