Would the 80/100 bulbs be ok in place of the 55/65? I need some more light with the Hella 7".

So in a different thread I was on a search for 1157 bulb sockets for my 77 280. Didn't find originals but after purchasing a couple different types to try and then realizing they aren't going to work, I decided to take these apart and compare them to the stock one. Neither one of these 2 pictured would work as far as fitting tight in the tail light housing. The white sockets pictured would fit but not snug like the stock ones. And the "sockets" were shorter than stock as shown here . So I decided to pull the spring, spring plate, and 2 wires out of the new socket and splice into the original socket housing. Was also able to use the new rubber gasket that was supplied wi…

I was at the local u-pull it yard yesterday and found an 83zx and a 77z sitting almost beside each other. Damn shame.... I've seen a lot of posts about the ZX distributor upgrade on here and on Blue's tech tips so when I noticed the ZX had a good looking distributor still there, I pulled it with the wiring. $5. When I set down to review the process on Blue's site, I noticed that the real advantage seems to be related to the limiting ballast which doesn't seem to exist on a 78. My car runs fine. Basically stock. I was trying to make it just a little better, but I'm wondering if there is any advantage to this swap. Thanks for any insight.

Before I go ripping the center dash apart again, is there any " common " problem that would cause a Mode door to get jammed in the Vent position? Probably once I take it apart ( Again.... Grrrr ) , the answer will be staring me in the face.. but just want to know if there are any Common assembly errors or such that I may have made. The mode vacuum pot itself is actuating... but the linkage only moves a short distance before it jams. It's not like it's seizing or binding either... it's like the door is hitting something inside. Didn't worry about it this Summer... as door was stuck on Center vent and with AC that was fine. But now I'm taking a trip to the West Coast…

My 76 runs fine one minute and then it suddenly dies. It starts right up again and will run fine for awhile but then will suddenly die. When it does this its like someone pulled a plug, no stumbling, etc. Just dead. The tach will just drop and its dead. I checked the fuel system (eg, pump, regulator, pressure, etc) and everything seems fine. Therefore I'm moving on to the engine electrical systems. I read somewhere that a problem like this when the tach just drops is sometimes related to the ignition control module wich I'm working my way towards examining. But In the FSM on page EE34, sec 2.2 it gives a procedure for first checking the ignition coil. http://www.ni…

The LED topic is a recurring one -- here's a good comparison of headlight choices from Jalopnik: http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/should-you-swap-your-headlight-bulbs-for-leds-1728026383

I am trying to reassemble a 280Z (Dec77 build date) that I purchased with all the engine electricals and Fuel Injection removed and stored in boxes. I'm getting close. But now I have a mystery wire attached to the distributor. Its obviously a ground wire but I'm not sure of its function or what it was attached to. In the picture the mystery wire is attached to the bolt holding the distributor in and has a bullet connector on the far end after about 1 foot of wire. I think it ran from the distributor (as in the attached pix) to a condenser near the ignition coil. The 78 FSM EE section on page EE-26 shows a circuit running from the coil positive wire thru a condense…

In the middle of a full resto on a 77 280z and in the process of repairing the original wiring harness. Does anyone have the square, flat or round connections figured out? Are square ones for engine, flat for accessories etc...It looks like a method to the madness but I thought I would ask you experienced guys first. Anything will help! Flattop

Hello all, Anybody use the AC delco oil pressure sensor? I went thru a couple of the brass ones with no luck, my mechanic gave me an old 1600 sensor which worked great, but now its leaking - need to replace. Thanks, Ken
