Hi All Recently acquired a decent running 73 240z (07/73 production date) So I have searched both google and the assorted forums to no real avail. Heres whats up... wiring was a bit of a mess so I am cleaning it up and I came across the two inline fuses on the main dash harness. One is on a white with red tracer wire and the other is on a light blue wire. The red/white one had a fuse in it but the blue one hand a broken apart fuse...so I replaced it...here is where the fun starts. With the blue wire fuse in I can hear a click in the accessory relay..and the weird part is now the starter will try and engage when the key hits the off position. Un hook the fuse (or accessor…

I have been sitting/ignoring an electrical problem for some time now, and as of today figured I would take another run at it. About a year ago my combo switch was overheating and melted a wire or two and the plastic connector, seeing as rewiring was out of my range I took it in and had a new combo switch/wiring put in. Shortly after(if not immediately) I noticed that my parking and interior lights were out. It was a blown fuse. Currently: The parking light fuse, after about 15 seconds gets red hot and burns out once the combo switch is turned on to parking lights. I disconnected all the parking and tail lights(and headlights) and flipped the parking lights on the combo sw…

On my 1976 280Z I was replacing the drivers door switch which I had done before many years ago. When I slowly tugged the switch out the 4 wires became unplugged from the old switch and fell down in the body panel, Does any one have any ideas on how I can get those 4 wires back out? I haven't removed the control box by the drivers left leg yet but it looks as though it solid body panel behind it. I though about getting one of those drain pipe cameras but I'm not sure if the camera will fit in the little hole that the switch mounts to. Thanks for any help!

Another question for everyone Does anyone know if, or how the top lamp assembly can be removed from the housing? The part I'm talking about is the 1-1/2 inch center disk. I'd like to send my inspection light housing in to have a new zinc coating applied to them so that they're nice and shiny again. thanks

I am in the middle of replacing my fuse box with an upgraded MSA unit. When it came time to chop off the old spade terminals and transfer them to my new box I hit a roadblock. As you can see the female terminals inside the sleeves have seen some heat. The reason for this is they are somewhat corroded and this corrosion lead to resistance which leads to heat. Needless to say I don’t want to use them and need to source some new ones. I am also thinking of replacing the male terminals as well but some steel wool may shine them up. For now I am having a heck of a time finding the female terminals where I don’t have to buy 10 – 10,000 of them and there is not a 3 w…

I will start off with the following disclaimers: • I know next to nothing about how tachometers are supposed to work or be wired up. • I have read a few threads on here about tachometers. I have learned a few things, but also reinforced the awareness that I don't know much. • I have not yet found answers to my questions... The basics: Bought a 1971 Z from a couple of dopes who knew nothing about the car. I am going through it trying to learn about it and fix things as I go. The car still has points in it, although it also has a pertonix flamethrower coil. The tachometer needle was off the pin, sitting in the bottom of the gauge. For this reason I never knew if t…

This is a pic of the relay bracket from a 77 Z. There are mounting holes for relays that my car does not have. Does anyone know what the relays are that screw to this side? What are the functions of the two relays that screw to those four mounting holes on the side that faces forward toward the headlights: And for posterity, here are the other three sides. This is the side that faces the engine. The four screws attach the two fusible link blocks: Here's the side that faces the battery. The relay in the pic (I believe) is for the air conditioning compressor: And here's the side where the voltage regulator would mount:

My right front turn signal light was not working a couple of weeks ago, whenever you move the turn signal switch to the right only the rear right turn signal lamp flashed. I decided to take the car to a shop where they fixed it and now it does flashes. However, yesterday when i parked the car in front of an establishment i noticed that stepping on the brake also activated the right front turn signal light. Is this normal?? I think only the rear lights should actÃvate whenever you step the brake pedal. How do i fix this problem?

OK, I have everything I need for my ZX Dist swap. The only thing I am not sure of, is what coil I need. I have the ZX tach in place and a wire running to the coil +. What after market coil will work and do I need the resistor?

71 240Z. My running lights stopped working the other day. I checked the fuse and it was ok. When I pulled one of the bulbs out I noticed it was burned out. It turns out every single running light, and all of the dash lights are not only burned out, but on some the glass is even cracked. I replaced all four of the running lights and they worked fine again, until I started the car and gave it some gas. They got bright and poof. No more lights. The first thing I checked was the voltage regulator. It's only 3 months old. With the car idleing it shows 12.6 volts. The volts dont go up at all if i rev it up. It shows 12.4 to 12.6 at the battery while running. I also just lost my…
