Hi! I have solved all the electrical issues on my Z now, except one. I can't get the turn signal lights to work. When I turn on the hazard switch, all the lights flash as they should, included the indicators in the tachometer. When I turn on the driving light switch, the turn signal indicators come on and is lit constantly. If I then try the turn signal switch, the indicator for the side I switch it in turns off, but still no flash... If I disconnect the front turn signal lights, the dash indicators turns off, but I still don't get any flash in either direction. Only hazard flash works. What can cause this problem? Sorry if this was badly explained. I am norwegian, s…

As part of my switch to a Megajolt ignition i build a small electronic circuit to convert the "four wire" current driven Datsun tacho in my '72 240Z into an electronic tacho, which can directly be connected to the tacho output of the Megajolt, MSD, Bosch, Crane or other electronic ignition. Quite surprisingly, the 38 year old tacho was very precise after a calibration, with the highest display error below 3%. You'll find a complete description including the wiring diagram, pcb files and images here: http://www.dinoplex.org/tachoconversion/ Best, Adrian

I am looking for some guidance on whether or not this distributor is going to work with the setup that the P.O. had in place. I have read Walter Moores' post and can not find my dist. number on any list. I have a D612-53, with a 12 deg. T bar. I see D612-52 and D612-54, but no -53. My distributor is from a 1971 S30 and has been converted to electronic ign. ( Crain XR3000 ) Engine config. is an F54 block, N42 head with a .450/.450 238/238 @ 0.050 cam, 6-2-1 header 1972 carbs with Z Therapy SM needles and stock air box, with cold air intake. My question is, IF this distributor falls in the same category as the D612-52 and the D612-54 with the wild centrifugal and the vacuu…

I adapted a Metra PW-22 today to work on my 240Z with the antenna switch. Turns out, all I had to do was to put a diode between the red and blue wires, and then hook them up to the switch's outputs. For lowering the antenna, the diode allows you to power the mast motor without energizing the magnet (and switching the relay). For raising the antenna, the diode allows you to power the mast motor and energize the magnet (thus switching the relay). The PW-22 can be had for $65 at Autozone, about $100 cheaper than the MSA replacement.

Hey guys, here's the story..need some help.. I have a 71 240z. Stock (mostly). Prior owner installed the parking light upgrade with 15 amp fuse link coming from battery positive terminal. I just upgraded the alternator to a 60 amp. Disconnected the old voltage regulator and capped with the diode connector from motorsports. Everything was and is great! Car runs better. Charging well. Starts easy and no problems when I got everything hooked up. About 30 minutes into my drive back home after connecting everything at my friends shop. The dash lights went out (and the side and rear parking lights). Headlights, high beams, turn signals, dome, hazzard, lighter, radio, power ante…

I have seen references to replacing the stock tach with an Autometer 3990 tach, but cannot find any description of how it is fitted to the stock housing and wiring. Has anyone done this? I would like to install one in my 1973 240z. Thanks, Victor.

Just looking for some advice or direction. I upgraded to the 60 AMP internally regulated alternator some time ago and made the proper wiring changes. I have recently found some issues with my fusible links and have for the most part corrected those. Loose connections and some corrosion cleaned up and pressed down a little. Running voltage improved to 14.7V (good). Was seeing as low as 10V. Issue is that I used snap lock splices (big blue things) for the wiring change on the alternator upgrade and it appears that when I shake the mess of wires and splices I get some variation in voltage at the battery. I would like to redo the splicing using some other method. Is so…

I am going to put a low pressure cutoff switch on my 71Z. I got a brass T and a nipple from Home Depot. I can not get the nipple threaded in the block. It threads into the T fine. The oil pressure sender threads into the T and the block just fine. The nipple just won't go in the block. I held the nipple and the oil pressure sender up, side by side and the threads look the same. Same pitch, etc. I don't get it. Has anybody had any trouble like this or have you used something else? Thank you, TimsZ

On my 240 there is a 16ga green/white wire from the ignition switch to the back of the tach then becomes a black/white wire, also 16ga that goes to and powers the ignition coil. Would there be an advantage in changing those 16ga wires for 14 or 12ga? 16ga just seems kind of thin to power the whole ignition system. Thanks, chris

So I did the upgrade, but when I couldn't find the correct green-red wire that was explained herehttp://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/alternatorswap/index.html, I tried to unplug some of the other wires from the triangular/3wire plug. One side is all black and the other is red blue n green. This guy seems to have had the same issue. 280zx Alternator Swap Into 75 280z - Z-Car - Ratsun Forums Car runs now, but the headlights won't turn on. The driving lights do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any help would be great. I'm now looking through the wiring diagrams I'm finding online. Here's a shot of her....

Yesterday while washing my '73 I found a small hole in my Cibie HCR (rock). These headlights were installed by the P.O. a long time ago. Are they still available? The light still works, but it won't when water gets in. I would like to replace the unit with one the same or at least similar enough so you can't tell the difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Cheers, Mike
