Hey All, I just recently purchased a 280z, I am so far happy with my purchase. The kid I bought it from said that he hasnt been able to get it running. I did a little diagnosing today and came to the conclusion that the gas pump isn't getting power.....and then I realized that nothing is getting power. Except for the starter and headlights. No gauges, no interior lights, no wipers, no blinkers, etc. I have checked the fuseable link and they all look good. Everything seems to be hooked up. I just put a brand new battery in. If anyone has any recommendations i'd be very appreciative. Thanks, Jeremy

I picked up a 1983 280ZX distributor the other day, I've had it apart and it seems to have very little wear so cleaned it up and re greased. Now I have a 240z with an L28 with triple carbs and I have read many times that what I need is an E12-80 ignition control module. My question is why? Why can't I use this one? I know it's FI but what would that have to do with the timing of the spark? Thanks, Chris

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I just bought a nice little '78 280Z. It's wonderful to own an S30 again. Back in my younger days I owned a '75, and it was the best car I ever owned. My ex made me sell it. :ogre: It's been 15 years, but I'm back behind the wheel of one of these beautiful machines. Like another recent poster, I have an erratic tach. It doesn't go completely wonky, pegging both ends of the scales and such. Rather, it seems to read about half the correct RPMs, sometimes drifting up and down a bit -- sort of wandering around. Aside from that, the tach seems to be in nice condition. The electronics geek in me recognizes that I don't have to spend h…

Can someone send me a picture of how the battery is secured originally? Also, if someone has modified how their battery is secured, I would like to get ideas. Thanks :-)

i am looking to install a mini type alternator in a 280z race car. It should be NO MORE than 35 amps................. does anyone know what alternator may bolt up to the z? i understand that aftermarket companies supply upgraded alternators - however they are all way to large. i do NOT need 90 amps or anything even close. it should be a small one like this; mini alternator

Guy's - I'm now at the point where I'm thinking twice about taking the Z out in fear that I may not be able to get it started again once I reach my destination. The problem is a a worn ignition barrel - I had a spare set of key's made up which did not see the orig template (copies of copies) that has probably accelerated the wear. Any idea's where I may be able to purchase new keys & ignition barrel ? thanks in advance.

Hi, Does anyone have thoughts on or knowledge of fitting electronic ignition on a (72) 240Z Automatic with Cali' emission control. I found this thread (shown below) from 3 years ago which tells me that switching from dual points to EI using a unit from the 280ZX is possible but will having emission control cause an issue? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/electrical-s30/38049-duel-points.html I'm trying to cure a mis-fire. When the car came from the US, it had some US fuel in it and ran smoothly. I put in some UK 95 Octane fuel which I think converts to 91 RON and soon after it began to mis-fire. I've put in some premium unleaded, 99 Octane, but no improvement. It h…

Greetings, Hope everyone had a chance to run around in their Z this Labor Day weekend! I didn't;( The fusebox in my 1972 240Z decided to part ways 50 miles from home last week. It appears as if the wiper circuit (Accessory) overheated, melted, and shorted into the flasher (Ignition) circuit causing a quick end to the outing. (Not to mention the ignominy of having it hoisted high onto a flat bed like a vanquished enemy and delivered home. The shame, the shame...) I've already ordered the upgraded box from MSA and should be able to get to it later this week. No fuse blew during the meltdown, in fact, I wasn't using the wipers, and haven't in months, which makes me susp…
