hello, can anyone confirm that the early series 240s (7/70) have a metal squirrel cage fan under the passenger dash - or should it be a plastic fan? thanks Ken

I am trying to hunt down a short in my ign system that's causing 20A fuses to blow as soon as I turn my ignition to the on or start position. I have tried using my multimeter but, apparently I'm not quite as good as I thought. I get a reading of 001 if I measure resistance between the B/W wire from the ign switch and the fusebox so that looks like it should but if I check between the B/W wire at the switch and ground I get 1485!! I also get the same reading if I check the opposite side of the fuse, the green wire. This leads me to a short to ground on the green wire side of the fusebox. Is this correct? It looks like the green wire goes to the tach, speedo meter and a few…

Hi Guys, My car would not start after running a few hours, I hear that click sound from the starter. I changed the starter solenoid switch, I replaced the alt recently I check all the lights sockets and fixed the wires that looked frail ect. I used the multimeter to check voltage and everything is ok, its charging while running, the battery holds charge while engine off. But I still experience the sudden lack of electrical power to start the engine, Iam always boosting or push start. Once the car starts all light work and everything is bright. Now, the other day while I was checking for other possible loose wire I tried to start the car and I heard the clicking sound agai…

It has been over 30 years since I worked on a Z points distributor and I need the forum's help to see if I remember this correctly. I want to change the points on my stock '72 Z. Is it correct to be able to unbolt the distributor from the block, take it out, put in new points and condenser, set the points and put the distributor back in without losing timing? I think the shaft is keyed so that it can only go back in one way. Thanks, Charlie

Ok, we were talking about this in the engine section but I figured this might be a beter section for my problem. I have an ecu from a 2.4 in my 280z... Some research shows that it is from a maxima. I have 2 questions: -Is it safe to leave this ecu in the z? -If not, if I replace it with the right ecu how do I match it to my afm? I have searched this "matching" topic and have not received a def answer. Some say it is not the a11 number but the real Nissan part number to match. I cannot find this 10 didgit part number anywhere.... Only what is on the stickers... I was told the "right" ecu is a11-600 000. This seems to be accurate. Manual trans. Current ecu sticker: A…

Hello all, I'm a new Z owner from Norway and this is my first post. I have a '71 Z that arrived from the US recently, and I'm having trouble getting the following lights to work: - Side marker lights (both) - Park lights (both) - Rear lights (both) - Dash backlights - Rear indicator (both) These lights work: - Head lights - Backup lights - Indicators front - Emergency blink (all four) - Break lights I haven't checked the bulbs, but it feels like something else is wrong. All fuses in the fuse box are replaced with new ones. After reading a couple of older threads describing similar problems, I checked the rear side of the fuse box (looks ok), and the soldering points and t…

I have no intent of buying any of the original wiring and i am trying to figure out how to get power to and from the coil to the distributor and how it should be wired. i have seen a couple of diagrams but they do not specify what cable goes where. I'm planning of having flip switches and that kind of stuff. Seems easier than investing on a expensive harness. Thanks all help is Appreciated.

I'm new to the forum and 240z in general (actually any kind of working on cars in general), so when I was generously given this pdf of a wiring diagram, I made it a little more readable for people like me who are new to electronics (should be able to be printed up big and in color so you can stick it on the wall. there are one or two wires that start up as one color and end another even though it didn't go through a switch or junction, so I'm not sure if the original plan was wrong or if I messed anything up. Hopefully I can help someone out as I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions as I get started in my project.

the a/c compressor relay for a 260z is no longer available from anyone. anywhere. it was suggested by a mechanic that i could substitute in any 3-blade relay provided it was rated for the correct amperage. he added that most old horn relays would probably work. anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? thanks, tony, richmond, va

Gentlemen; when I turn my key to the lock position my starter engages. I've replaced the switch with a used unit and a new unit with no change. Other than that little issue the wiring seems to be fine. Has this happened to anyone before? I'm going to dig into the wiring next week, but I can't see how the ignition switch can't be the culprit.

So after reading for a couple hours now (including some threads just like this one), I'm exasperated. I can't get my stock '71 Tach to work with the MSD setup. Setup: '71 240z. 280ZX Electronic Distributor w/ E80-12 Module. MSD 6A (Digital). Blaster 2 Coil. I found this thread that talked about the 8920 Install: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/articles-our-members/13085-msd-6a-installation-280zx-distributor-240z-tach.html That didn't seem to work. The tach would jump when the engine turned over, but then nothing. Then I found this one, which exuded so much confidence I figured, 'that must be it' and purchased the 8910. Getting your early 240Z tachometer wo…
