Searching for any info on the Datsun 280ZXR (1979). Has factory rear spoiler? True? All I have is that they only manufactured 1000. Would appreciate any info, pics etc. Thanks!

Hi, Just got back from driving the 370Z from Phoenix to Houston in the "Follow the Z Rally." Attached is a reenactment with the 370Z's of another historic journey from nearly 40 years prior. In October of 1969, Datsun brought a pair of pre-production 240Z cars into the Phoenix area for testing. Their trip is immortalized in a photograph taken near Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, in front of the old Phoenix Greyhound Park. The picture shows the two Z test cars, with an early 510 chase vehicle, and Datsun personnel consulting a map during their trip through the Valley. Well, here we are, almost 40 years later, on the same exact corner, with three modern versions: Two 370Z'…

To understand the entire S30 model run ("family") we first have to know the reasons for the creation of so many different model designations. Each and every market has a governing body who mandates their requirements, which must be met before any vehicle is allowed for sale. I couldn't tell you how many of these different governing bodies there are/were worldwide (I would need lots of help to get it right), but for example in the US there are Federally mandated requirements of the MVSS - Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and also voted into law requirements put in place by individual States. The most well known of these State requirements are the ones set forth by the State …

Is there any way to determine using the VIN to determine how the car was equipped from the factory? I own British cars also and I can still purchase an certificate stating exactly the color and options that were available from the factory and am hoping a similar service is available. Thanks, Tom

Check out this great article by Jalopnik on the design process/influences that led to the soon-to-be 370Z. 2009 Nissan 370Z: Design Dissected EDIT: I quickly wrote up this thread between classes, after only having skimmed it. On a further read, I wouldn't call it "great" but it is interesting none the less.

I have heard from a couple of sources that Dave Deal passed away October 14th after battling cancer. Dave was a local celebrity, as I would run into Dave at a local breakfast spot from time to time. A quiet unassuming man, Dave’s artwork had a voice of it’s own. Dave Deal‘s most recent work involved the characters for Pixar’s movie Cars. Dave was also the designer for numerous iconic logo’s including Armor All, and his caricatures of cars in the 70’s and 80’s for numerous publications. A friend of Peter Brock, Dave had done a number of caricatures for Peter including his cannonball run effort and of the BRE 510 #46. For those of you old enough perhaps you wi…

I wanted to see if the Northwest has ever hosted a National Z convention, so I searched around on this site and several other places trying to find a list of where and when the National Z Conventions were held. I couldn't find a complete listing, but I pieced together the attached list based on information I came across during my seach. Can anyone add to or make corrections to this list? Also, it looks like the last two conventions and the one planned for next year were all at the end of Sept to early Oct, but before that the timing varied quite a bit. Is that a requirement that they all be held at the same time now, or is that just a coincidence? -Mike National Z Co…

:surprised Our '71 240Z Odometer doesn't have enough space for the actual readings, so rather than it having what is shown of 91,009 it has 191,009. Many 240Z classics I've seen here as well as selling on eBay show what appears to be mileage 100K short due to this. Is this a common thing, historically with this year Z ? I find it surprising that the creators of this great classic would be so short-sighted as to envision the life of a 240Z to be so short. Forgive me, please, if I posted this in the incorrect forum. A novice, learning with thanks. Asta

I'm restoring a 71 240z with some early mild 70's style mods. One thing I'm looking for are ideas on the exhaust system, the factory system is a little quieter than I like. I'm was thinking of going with over under glasspacks, but was wondering what other types of setups that might have been used in the 70's does anyone have some ideas or pictures?

After reading the post and viewing CarlB's beautiful BRE rally car I thought I should give a little history about HLS30-000999. Ordered in 1969 from the dealer and was the very first Z delivered to Alabama. Joe Long purchased the car and he and Darryl Holder converted it to a Pro Rally car. It was an amateur SCCA class car and they did fairly well in the Northern woods/Michigan Rallys from 70-74 or so. As I recall they only improvements were navigation related, more lights, different sway bars, harnesses, and a roll bar. I bought the car from Joe in 1976 for parts after they had hit a tree while on the roof in Northern Michigan during a stage rally. After stripping t…
