I know it's prolly been asked before and stuff, my searches don't come up with too much info...so I'll ask again.. I have a stock 260Z, with DGV's, and I have a 280Z with fuel injection....and I want to swap the FI motor into the 260Z. I'm aware that the fuel pump would be a deffinate swap, and I was thinking of just getting a MSD 42 GPH pump to put inline to save the time in swapping the full fuel sytem...IE...tank, pump, fuel lines...etc. I have a freind that can swap the wires over in a few hours for the ecu and the full harness...from what he says.... But what is really needed for this swap...from everyones experiance? The engine from the 280 has the oversized pi…

Changing out my 72 4-speed and r180 to an 82 280zx 5-speed and a r180/4.11. While I have the tranny/dif out of the car what parts should I have on hand to replace the old ones with. Will plan on a new clutch but what other seals, bearings, ect. in either the new transmission or the dif? Can I easily change out the rear engine seal without much complication? Thanks for the information in advance.

I would like to convert my 260z to electronic ignition to due away with the points, question is how? It seems using a 280zx distributor is a popular mod, but how do I get electricity to it? Splice into the main harness?

Hello, I just ran into a fellow that has a wrecked '81 280zx 2+2 with a P79/F54, 5 Speed Transmission, and R200 Diff. Motor only has 60 thousand miles on it. I'm about to pluck the motor, and the transmission, but am wondering about the differential. Can I just use my shafts right in it, or will I have to take the ones off the ZX? Regarding the electrical ignition system in it, what more would I need than the distributor, coil, ignition module? Is there something else on these motors needed? edit: http://webpages.sdsmt.edu/~1014532/index2.htm is a few pics of the nasty beast

Hello fellow Zers I've got an opportunity to pick up a clean late '72 early'73 bumper. Although they look the same except for the larger overiders, the mounting point inside the bumper is different. The early bumpers have the studs permanently mounted to the bumper itself, were the late 72, June or July has the mounting bracket studs mounted thru the overiders on an adaptor. Has any one tried to mount these late '72-73 bumpers to an earlier car? I'm getting close to desperate to find a clean early bumper, and thinking I may need to do some mods to get this to work. Thanks in advance, Dave

i have a 71 240 z that i am getting a 83 turbozx motor put in. i am waiting for an estimate on rebuilding the motor right now. do you think that it would be wise to to get a 3.1 stroker rebuild done on the motor. has anyone heard of a 3.1 turbo motor? would it handle the stress?

I have a realy rusted chassis that my 71'240z is on now and I have a 77'280z, I know they both use the S-30 chassis but dose anyone know if the componets for the 240z would fit on the 280z chassis and if everything would bolt in the same place or if I would have to drill and weld brakets for everything? thanks

Has anyone researched, attempted or completed this swap? I keep hearing that the motors (L24/RB25DET) are distantly related (same bore centers, for instance). So I would think that the motor/trans would swap with a minimum of effort - likely the same mounts, possibly requiring a custom tranny mount. Considering that it's a carb'd car, the wiring would be minimal - just find a place to mount the ECU and run the harness - pretty simple, compared with later cars. This setup would be a killer one - 250+hp stock in a 2300-2400lb car, with a redline of 8500rpm and a matched five speed gearbox. I am really considering doing this swap, so if anyone can fill me in on if it's been…

No way! I bought one from a yard yesterday in hopes that it would work, but the regulator itself is almost an inch too long and the window is a few inches too long. Consensus: The window regulators or door windows from a 260Z will not bolt directly into a 240Z or vice versa. I would imagine the same is true for the 280s as well, but I didn't verify that. Correct me if any of this information is wrong or it needs to be more specific to seating layout or whatever. The Doctor

I am new to these forums, and I just wanted to say thanks to all the people that did all the footwork for the info I was looking for. Within 5 minutes of joining these boards, i found Drax240z's Turbo / Supercharger - The Ultimate Turbo FAQ/Beginners Guide, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again! Wayne
