I've been told that a wrx LSD r160 diff will fit in my 280z, is this true? Or has anyone ever tried this?, I'm not looking for it to handle anything more than low 200 hp. Just wanna have both rear wheels spinning .

Every since I put in this type B transmission I have and a clunking in reverse that corresponds to speed that I hear every single time I back up and it is by far worse when cold. Never fully goes away though. I was going to do a fluid change just for kicks today. drained the fluid, no signs of a leak anywhere, in fact it was very clean still. Keep in mind this was a rebuild from zcarsource I installed before my rally. IT shifts fine and drives fine. But it has always clunked when in reverse backing up. Clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk when I back up. The fast I back up the faster it clunks. Never had this issue ever with my old Type A transmission that came with the car. …

Hi! I just got my L24 running after sitting for several years. The head looked very clean underneath the valve cover, and I went over all the valves and adjusted them to .25 and .20mm as the FSM says. I then took out all the spark plugs and let it run on the starter for about half a minute before I started it. It runs nice, but I have this nasty noise coming from the engine. I have read about other having problems with noise from the valvetrain, but this is a bit too much or what? I am not very experienced with this engine, so that is why I am asking you Any ideas? Kind regards, Tomzern

A couple of probably obvious questions for many, but not for me. I've looked in Autocar, Chilton's, the FSM, and other assorted manuals but cannot determine the answer to what seems to be a simple question: 1) To check for timing chain stretch is it necessary to remove the front cover, or can it be done by removing the valve cover? 2) If the above is yes and the chain is stretched, is it necessary to remove the front cover to adjust for stretch? I haven't seen anything on this subject... Is there anything available for the L28 engine in the way of underdrive pulleys? If there is, is it worth the money and effort to use them? thxZ

There is that cup shaped washer that surrounds the cam sprocket bolt. What's it's purpose? Do you have to have it? Is it attached on an eccentric? Any help? 71Z. Thank you very much,TimsZ

My R180 has 180K miles on it and has the developed the usual whine between 45-55 mph that changes pitch between driving and coasting. The manual says this is an indication of excessive runout between the pinion gear and drive gear. I have previously replaced the wheel bearings all round and have been impressed with the change in ride. When I first got the vehicle 18 months ago, the side seals showed evidence of leakage and one half shaft was installed backwards. After the mechanics replaced the forward differential mount, side seals and re-installed the half shafts, I noticed a clunk when shifting from driving to coasting and vice versa. The u-joints were okay but there…

As some of you might recall, I built a new engine for my 240C coupe that was originally going to be turbo'ed. Since I put this car on the track, a change in direction to keep it NA kept me in a more appropriate class, so a new head was sourced. The P90 with 1mm oversized valves was taken off and replaced by a late model E88 from an injected 2.4E engine. With L28 valves and a CNC port job, 300 degree duration cam, 595 valve lift, 1000cfm 4 barrel throttle body, on a Clifford manifold, headers and a 3 inch exhaust running a stock 280zx dizzy, the engine did this today.......
