considering returning to the 240z world after 35 years. my 73 had a 100k and was running strong when i sold it. how many miles do these engines and transmissions last and at what point is a preventative rebuild recommended. i realize that driving tendencies, oil changes , preventing overheating and general maintenance all factor in. Just looking for some guidelines and advice.thx.

L28 engine, 10 to 1 compression, using a D612-53 distributor from an early L24 engine, static timing 5* Pertronix ignition, mild Crane cam. Can not advance the timing past 10* without ping, vacuum advance disconnected because of triple carbs. I have tried 94 octane gas with colder plugs but still getting some ping. I thought my next move was to pull the head and install a thicker head gasket to bring down the compression a bit but my local mechanic suggested that a cam with a longer duration might be worth a try before pulling the head. Is this a real option? This is the cam I'm running right now,

Hey guys, quick hopefully easy question. Which way does the worm gear go on the crankshaft? Bevel in or out? I'm guessing in, but I didn't take it off, machine shop did and didn't put it back on, nor do they remember. Thank you in advance.

i'm in the garage now so hoping someone knows this off the top of their head: should a leakdown test be performed with all plugs out, or only the the cylinder being tested? we're getting very different readings depending on which way we do the test. thanks, tony
