I've had this 240 for many years and finally getting serious about getting it back together. Took it to a mechanic to jump start me by getting the 5 speed I bought mated to the motor and installed. He did a leakdown test and it's leaking pretty bad. Haven't torn into it to see why, but want to know who the community recommends for a rebuild. My mechanic couldn't recommend any of the engine shops in Northwest Arkansas area, so I thought I'd check with the Z community to see who you would recommend for basically a stock rebuild on an L24 motor. Thanks!!

Hello guys i am a 240z owner with L24 with no modification at all Over Hong Kong, due to we don't have much 240z over here and not much garage that would have much knowledge and experience with these type of cars, i would really need some help.🥺 hope you guys won't mind for me to ask some stupid questions. So once we trying to rebuild the engine we found out that there are lots of parts to be purchase, so i have bought tons of rebuild parts form Zdepot, then we found out that the Crankshafts in the L24 is scratched badly and not in a good condition, i am looking for a brand new one but no hope i believe the parts number is E3141 or E3142 if i am correct? …

A question came up on FB around the late S30/Early S130 5-speed transmissions. The OP asked if there is supposed to be a return spring on the 1-2 gate as well as on the 5-R gate. He stated that his only has a detent spring on the right side, but not the left side. My transmission does the same thing, but I swear it is supposed to have the detent on both sides returning the shifter to the 3-4 gate, with a heavier spring on the right and a light spring on the left. There seems to be conflicting info if there is supposed to be a detent spring on the left side. If there is supposed to be a detent spring on the left, is it repairable without a complete teardown? I as…

Trying to make my '71 240 as original as possible and just learned that original plug wires of the era are distinctly marked. My off-the-shelf wires would be persona non grata at a concours. Any ideas on where I could find original, original plug wires? Thanks

I’m nearing the end of my veeery long rebuild project on my L24 and I finally bolted on my original F4W71A. I’m using the original throw out collar and fork, but installed this new clutch kit from zcarsource: link. When pressing on the slave cylinder side of the fork, I was just expecting to feel a nice gradual resistance as the TO bearing engaged the pressure plate. Unfortunately I feel absolutely nothing until almost the end of travel. I can’t imagine that small amount of travel is going to be able to get enough leverage to actually disengage the clutch. Any ideas what I could have done wrong? Here’s a video of me fiddling with the fork to show what I m…

Looking to get a set of 75-78 280z valves for my p79 head. Shopping around it seems like the brands that offer the valves are ITM, DNJ, Unknown vendor on z car depot or the more expensive options california datsun SS valves, and supertech. Other than NOS Fuji am I missing any brands here? Also, does anyone have experience with ITM or DNJ parts? Thank you,

For some time now I've been wanting to re-route my spark plug wires around the front of the engine area so it cleaned up the top of the valve cover and provided an overall cleaner look in my engine bay. However, all of the installations that I have seen essentially use tie wraps to hold the wire bundle together as it is routed along the passenger side of the block and around the front to the distributor. Typically there is also some sort of clamp in the front part of the engine that holds the bundle to either the valve cover or the front cover plate. The notion of using tie wraps for this application just didn't sit well with me mainly from an aesthetics standpoint, bu…

I don't want to hijack the other thread on a R180 LSD installation. I have two photos attached on an LSD being installed. One from the internet from a Subaru that shows it just goes in nose first, is turned with two fingers, and slides into place. The other one is of my KAAZ LSD going in nose first and not moving beyond that position. The Subaru was replacing an LSD with another LSD while mine has never had an LSD. The ring gear almost clear the side of the housing. Are there any tips on what I need to do other than keep at it?

I have been rebuilding my differential for the last couple of evenings. It is a "K" R180 from the front of a Nissan 4X4 truck. From running it in my 240z, I know it was in good condition before disassembly. And, when I took it apart, I checked backlash and it was within spec. So, I don't believe it ever had been apart before. I purchased a Quaife LSD for it. I also purchased all new bearings and seals. For the differential case and the drive pinion shaft, I was very careful to install races and the tapered bearings, fully seating them in their correct positions. I also was sure to use the spacers and shims that were removed back in their origin…

Hello I just recently purchased a late 74 260z and have the engine out ready for a rebuild. My plan is to keep the matching engine block with the car and do some performance mods to cylinder head. I am having trouble deciding what to do after reading and researching. From what I've read, the e88 head that came on the 260z is known as a emissions head and is not the greatest in terms of performance, if not the worst head that was offered on the s30. Is this head really that bad or would it be worth it to get it shaved, ported, polished, and hot cammed? I also have a p79 head that I recevied for cheap. I've read the datsunzgarage mod for this head which is to shav…

I don't see any other threads like this on here, so I hope this is not inappropriate. Honestly I don't care for the HybridZ website, so I don't feel inclined to post there much. This is my long term plan for the 280Z. A neighbor who is also an old car buff stopped by about a month ago, he told me his wife's uncle had an '06 350Z that wouldn't pass inspection in RI ( I had told him earlier that I was considering a drivetrain conversion at some point in the future). The car is mechanically sound, so having the entire vehicle for the cost of an used engine & CD009 trans of unknown pedigree made sense to me. My personal experience with buying JDM drivetrains has not …

Z/ZX Gearing chart After driving my 280Z 500 miles this past weekend, I can honestly say I can't live with the 4 speed until the drivetrain conversion happens. Mine is in rough shape - 3rd gear whines like a tractor gear set, and in 4th, the shifter rattles & the whole thing sounds like it's gonna explode when I drive over 80 for any duration. There were a couple sprints on the way down & home where I got up over 90, and the car felt pretty good (I had previously felt the nose to be a little flighty at speed, however I think that is mostly the roadway I normally drive on - since I did not experience the same feel on the interstates going to Carlisle PA), but …
