I am adding electric fans and aluminum radiator to my 73 240Z. I would like to put a coolant temp sending unit (on @ 185, off @ 165). The sending unit that came with the kit is 5/8” NPT -no good. My thermostat housing has an unused port (pic below) that was plugged with an old sensor of some type ( on the right, pic below). I can’t ID the thread size on the fitting. The temp sender (on the left next to it) is 1/4 NPT. The threads on my mystery port measure slightly less than that - more than 18, less than 20. I get the feeling that this is not the original thermostat housing for my car, because I can’t find a mention of this second sensor or this hole. …

I've installing a FAST xr3000 ignition conversion in my distributor. Straight forward install. No big deal. Also I have a Fast 191 inductive coil. I plan to use rivnuts to mount both the module and the coil to the fender near where the original coil was located. (280Z) The inductive coil has a goofy mounting bracket that puts both + & - electrical connections very close to the mounting bracket where it will mount on my fender. It's a good looking piece and I'd rather not modify it but the those connections bother me. Any ideas for mounting it without cutting on the bracket?

Does anyone know how far from vertical an L24 or L28 engine block is tilted to the vehicle's right side? It's not something I can find in my FSM.

This past week, I went to get my Z ready to move to my new place from where it’s being stored, I knew the clutch hydraulics was having an Issue, because the last time I went to see the car the pedal had no back pressure. I assumed I got a either a leak or air in the system, so I bleed both the master and slave cylinder and it was totally unsuccessful. I had replaced both the master and the slave about 18 months ago when I first started trying to get this car road worthy. I think they are both made by Wagner? This will be the 3rd master I’ve installed. The first I got from AutoZone and that one wouldn’t fit due to the rod being the wrong length. I tried to cut it…

As you can see the bottom bolt where the inlet water goes has issues. i took it to a shop i have gone to for years and they could drill and tap it. They said to fix: -will need head gasket set, timing set, timing cover gasket set, timing cover, head bolts + labor They also said you had to take the friggin head off....what... I stopped by a local mom and pop garage ive never used. a friendly guy came out and talked to me. Incidentally he said he had a 240z a long time ago. He told me the other shop was full of $^!#. He said take the valve cover off and there were like 2 bolts up front you take out. then a bolt out of the water p…

I've searched past forums and couldn't find this in any of them. If I'm swapping out an automatic tranny to manual in my 73 Z, is the console the same for each, or do I need to buy a different console for the manual tranny?

Has anyone used Evans Waterless Engine Coolant? Everything I read about it, it sounds like amazing stuff. Non-corrosive, lasts forever and has better cooling properties. I saw Jay Leno uses it in all his cars now after corrosion problems on some of his cars. With my replacement engine I was thinking of using it and mitigating all the corrosion issues coolants have on internal components, end the painful replacement maintenance and environmental pain of disposal of normal anti-freeze. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Anyone have any experience with it. One draw back is the cost but it’s a one and done situation so over the life of a car it’s potential as cost sa…

I removed the oil pan to have a look at the big end bearing on cylinder 3 and check the end float (I was worried about piston slap.) No metal shavings or anything shiny looking. I wiggled all of the other big ends while I was at it, and number 4 also moved a bit more than the others, although checking with a feeler still under .3mm. It's an L28 block. So I removed number 4 and noticed that the bearing had a groove down the middle unlike number 3. From pictures in the manual, I know that main bearings have that groove and big end bearings are smooth. Would this cause an issue? Side note: It was a blown exhaust manifold gasket causing the noise on cylinder 3…

My engine rebuild is killing me....UGG So my machinist just told me the OEM lash pads i ordered were too thick...they are .120" He said he needs about .080" Can anyone help here? Not sure if these are even available. Only thing i saw was https://zcardepot.com/products/isky-valve-cap-lash-pad-custom-racing-cam-l24-l28?_pos=2&_sid=d43713ea7&_ss=r They say .080" for something but i am not sure if they will work with everything else being OEM (not a performance cam) and such thanks

My 260z distributor is acting up. I purchased a rebuilt unit but it has a 3 prong plug and the original distributor had a 2 prong. Does anyone know how to wire in the new plug? I need to alter the stock plug on the car to a 3 prong but need to know where they go.

Im rebuilding a 5 speed from a 77 280Z and want to include the seal and o-ring on the striking rod assembly in the tail of the trans. It was clearly a leak. There is no access hole in the side of the case as shown in the service manual. How do I remove this retaining pin on the striking rod? I tried to fabricate a tool out of a small c-clamp but cannot get in there...no room. Has anyone overcome this? I hate to do this complete overhaul without this seal.
