Does anyone else's diff fill and drain plugs look like this? I stumbled on the fact many other's and pics in FSM look recessed. When I searched for replacements, they are not this type. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal or not. Have a great Memorial Day!

I have come across a few different options for diff mounts but I hadn’t seen this one discussed. Has anybody tried this mount? Seems like it would transfer a lot of vibration throughout the car. I’m out of luck with the typical OEM type mount due to my car’s setup. Thanks

It is common I have found to struggle with the removal of two particular head bolts. Left side, #4 and 5 from the front. Coolant seems to get there and rust them into place. So the recent engine (N42/N42) needed the head off, and sure enough, all were easy to break free, but #4 was a struggle, and #5 broke. Here we go again. Took the head off, and found stage one of the birthday present. The bolt broke a good 3/8” of and inch above the block! Yahoo! Look at the crud around that bolt. The head gasket was mostly eaten through here. Old engine, old coolant.

Do the fuel send and return lines go above the parking brake rod? I am installing new lines from Classic Tube and of course now I can't remember if the lines routed above the parking brake, which would be a pain. I could have sworn I had lines routing above, but perhaps it was brake or vapor.

I'm going to be replacing my oil pan gasket and in reading up on it, I found a set of instructions that said: Knock pan loose with rubber mallet. Then loosen the two 12mm bolts on the oil pickup. So, do I drop the oil pan a few mm's and reach in with a 12mm wrench and loosen two bolts? Is that so I have some wiggle room to get the pan off?

Does anyone know where the EGR's vacuum line plugs in? I read in the FSM that it plugs into the throttle body's ported vacuum port but then it notes that the only thing that is plugged in there is the T connector that comes from the dizzy & charcoal canister... Any ideas?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me find flat-top pistons for an N42 L28 block. I've been searching the internet for the past few days and I just can't seem to find anything.. either sold out or is unavailable. I'm looking for .030" oversized. I appreciate any help or leads you guys could give me, as I am stuck. ..or maybe, someone might have a set they'd be willing to sell. Who knows? Thanks ah ead and any help is highly appreciated! I do have a set of dished pistons already, but I really want the higher compression from the flat top pistons. Thanks ahead, any leads or advice is greatly appreciated.

I bought a f54/P79 zx motor about a year ago. Paid 200$ for a motor that came from a running car that had 110K miles-DEAL! I was just wanting a L28 block with flat tops so I could put my e88 head on when I was done messing with my L24. The bores looked great and it all cleaned up well. Had the block tanked and a ball hone on the cylinders. They magnafluxed the block and measured out the bores for me to check specs, all was good. 120$ At this time, I wasn't planning on using the P79, so I sold it off for 150$ Since my L24 project is going so badly, I thought I might try and work the L28 at the same time and use whatever engine is done first. But was headless. Alway…

I'm getting close to completion on my first engine rebuild. I'm trying to set up the timing using the original distributor following Tom Monroe's instructions and I have some questions. He says: I must be dense because I just don't get what he's trying to tell me. If the the gap is already 0.5mm when the distributor is rotated all the way CCW, then what should it be when it "just begins to open"? More than 0.5mm or less? This is my first time setting up a distributor so I'm thoroughly confused. My points are measuring 0.25mm when the unit is rotated all the way CCW so I'm guessing I should adjust that. Also, I can actually rotate my rotor around 10 degree…

I'm using new 73 style pistons and want to upgrade cam to Comp Cams 280S-110 grind. The head has been surfaced at -.012. My main concern is valve clearance, I do plan to use cam tower shims but I'm unsure how many it might take to make this combination work. Thanks for your help. Specs for stock v. I recently had my stock engine rebuilt. When I got it back I put the remaining parts back on and I can't get it to start. First things I checked were compression and fuel; which were good. Lastly I went to check the spark and I had spark but wanted to confirm the timing. I set the number 1 cylinder to TDC and pulled the distributor and found the shaft to be at factory spec with the small lobe forward and positioned at 11:25. I also checked the crankshaft pulley timing mark and found it to be at 10:00 and not near 3:00 as it would need to be to be at zero on the timing plate. Thus I suspected incorrect mechanical timing so I removed the timing chain cover to verify. …
