I found a capable local guy that should have no problem rebuilding my 70 series one engine. Is there anything I can provide him that will assist in his success. He said he has no problem getting parts, and building the engine, but I'd appriciate any information that might be useful. I've already got a document that has links to everything Z related. I probably got that here.

Cam Towers 1 2

Getting ready to assemble my cylinder head this weekend. On a mock up run the cam didn’t turn what I would call freely, I could turn it with one hand but it did require some effort. This quote from “How to modify your Datsun” has me wondering how precisely “striking the tops of towers” is done? I understand the towers are align bored but it sounds like there is some percussive finesse potentially needed to get them back in line. Any tips on the assembly? thanks Tom

If you've been following my thread on a FS5W71B with a slipping 3rd/4th, I've disassembled and found numerous worn parts that cannot be replaced. To quote zKars "Holy crap, those teeth are in bad shape. ..You are out of luck as to finding a replacement. Time to look for a new transmission I think. " I found a used transmission on Facebook/market 3 hours away: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/428839345022192/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner Is there anything I can do to check it out before I pay for it?

Hello, I am looking at buying an L26 engine for my 240z the plan is to use the l24 flat top pistons and a decked e88 cylinder head to get more compression. The ozdat calculator says that with a 1.25mm thinner head gasket and the l24 pistons I will get a compression ratio of 10.5/1 is this equivelent to machining 1.25mm of the cylinder head and using the stock head gasket? Is it even possible to remove that much material?

Hi All, I've lurked for a while and read quite a bit here, but now I need some direct help. I'm rebuilding my L26 currently and would like to put a more aggressive cam in while I'm there. I'm new to this kind of engine building. Been working on air cooled 2 stroke engines for while. From what I gather, the standard way of doing things is to come up with your power goal first and then decide what parts to get. In an effort to learn more about how all these areas affect each other, I've started looking at cams first (maybe not the best idea, I know). I want my 260z to be generally in the area of a resto-mod. I have round top SU's I'll be using. Looking for some…

After almost 2 years of slowly rebuilding the engine, I finally got my '70 240Z to start up today! This is the first time I've ever seen the car run, so I'd love some feedback from you all with more experience on how it sounds. The car starts up pretty easily, even with the choke completely disengaged. The RPM seems to drift all over the place though, so I had to keep messing with the fast idle screw to keep it around 2,000 (just above Tom Monroe's recommended 1,500 minimum). It sounds kind of rough to my ears, but again I've never heard the car run properly so I really have no idea. This was originally my (soon-to-be) father in law's car and he thought it sound…

Need little help. One image attached..It is from inside looking through gear shifter section marked 2's...is anything to be attached here? Section marked 1 is where tranny slips in... I am wondering if i leave motor and tranny connected and remove it all at once does it simply simply out of this housing then slip back in when re-attaching? thanks

Hi guys, The plastic surround of the center spark coil lead (only) on my distributor cap has melted a bit for the 2nd time. The car came with an aftermarket ignition box/coil and has run great for years. Would putting ox-gard in the center terminal help deflect some of the electricity/heat awa y from the plastic surround? Here's a picture of the melted center terminal (the other terminals don't have this problem).:

New year new problems. Was going to take the z out this morning on a drive and I hear this loud clicking from the front. Opted not to drive it, but really want to figure out what this issue is. I tightened the alternator belt, but it did not change. The timing chain on the exhaust/intake side of the engine looks super loose, it looks like it’s slapping around on the rail. the only other thing I can thing of is the water pump bearing starting to make sounds. It normal for half of the chain not to have tension on it? The bright chain link lines up with the marking on the cam sprocket, so it would appear that it has not jumped a tooth or anything like that. …

With work being so busy my pursuit of getting the Z finally home has taken a back seat. I no longer can drop trips when I want like I could let-COVID. It’s all hands on deck in the shipping industry. Like everyone else I’m blaming COVID. Has anyone noticed how difficult is it to get things in the marketplace right now. Furniture, appliances etc....I paid for my new furniture 4 months ago and then last week the store closed it’s doors and took all our money. They have a sign “closed permanently due to COVID-19”. Now we are disputing the charges with the credit card company. We also had a difficult time getting out new family car as inventories are low so dealers a…

(1972 240z) Hi all, I removed my distributor for inspection and cleaning. I did not disassemble beyond removing cap rotor and points. My question. What is the procedure for reinstalling? How do I make sure that the firing cylinder is synchronized with the cap/rotor? How do I ensure that I'm not installing the distributor 180 degrees off? Do I need to make sure that the cylinder is on the Compression stroke? If so, what's the best practice for doing so? Detailed procedures much appreciated. I'll report back with results and credit to contributors....Thanks!!!! Jughead

I have a nice looking 240z but the motor is a little tired. My engine has triple webbers and header. I am torn between going crazy with2jz/rb/ls1 swap or install a nice crate engine. How much reliable rwhp can I get out of crate L engine ? I am looking for recommendations on places to buy the crate engine.
