First things first, where should my vac advance be hooked up to? First pic shows where it was originally hooked up when I first got the car, 2nd pic shows how it has been up until recently (please excuse the shithouse pic....it's all I have that shows it). I assume the change happened when the new carbs went on (they were nicked, I didn't install the new ones). Is there really any difference between using either position? Now, it had been running fine and dandy up until late last week when I installed a crane XR700. When I first took it for a drive after setting the timing I had forgotten to hook up the vac advance. So with it running, removed my plug (from the nipp…

I have got an L28 block in my 260z with the standard dished pistons. However the head is the smaller(40cc) E88 closed chamber with L24 valves (pretty sure it has 42mm intake vales, vs 44mm for the L28). The engine is otherwise a standard L28 with EFI. The engine is rebuilt and has only done about 100km. She goes pretty well, and I've always had it on the cards to put the L28 sized valves in, just wondering though if ,from people's experience, weather it is really worth it and if they noticed a difference? I'm getting ready to detail the engine compartment of my 78 Z. I want to keep it all stock and bring it back as close as possible to when it was new. I have a couple of questions for the group. 1) Can you point me to a good picture of the engine compartment of a 280-Z when it was new or one that has been restored to the original? I've looked through the gallery and it's hard to discern what was stock (colors, etc.) and what was enhanced. 2) What have others done to clean up or revitalize bare metal parts, such as the alternator, etc. Thank you.

This is rather embarrasing, I picked up a manifold gasket the other day for my '77 and it turns out the n42 head I have and the head I SHOULD have are rather different. I have diamond exhaust ports on the gasket and rectangles on the head.... Ouch. This isn't the worst part. I put them on before realizing the error. Anyhow, with luck the parts store will take them back as a gesture of goodwill My problem here, though, is that the headers don't seem to align very well. I believe they're MSA (They have a thick bar running along the bottom that flares on the ports) hell, here's some pics. Anyone else have this problem? How do you fix it? Grind the tops of the flanges to …

Hello all. I have a 260z that I put a 1977 280z engine in about 12 years ago. I have dual weber carbs on it. The car has sat for the last 12 years and last weekend I finally decided to get it running. I was able to do it by: 1) changing the oil 2) emptying gas from tank and filling it with new gas 3) changing the battery It started after sitting for 12 long years! I did notice that it was running a little hot, or it seems to. Along with that, it is making a tick noise from the heads. Do you think something might be sticking in there because it sat for so long? Maybe the oil got "gunky" and a valve or something is sticking? Twelve years ago it didn't do that....it…

I'm exploring my options for welding up a custom exhaust, and I think I want to do something like this: Of course, I'm gona be using this on a primarily street setup, so I'd have to have some kinda muffler. A traditional mufler won't fit in there, so I'd have to run glasspack ONLY. I've heard contradicting stories on how this sounds, so maby someone here can clear it up...

Just wondering, what's out there in the way of aftermarket inlet manifolds for injected L series motors? For that matter, how well does the L28 manifold flow? Is it any good at higher power levels? The motor in question would have forced induction, aiming for around 450HP.

Hello all. I am new to this forum and I have decided to start off my first entry (question) with what i feel is a very rookie question-- Why does an L28 make less HP than a L24? To my understanding, the fuel-injected L28 makes less HP because of "an increase in smog emissions requirements(back in '74)." So, I assummed that removing all of the egr and smog stuff would make for an immediate HP gain. But, I read that this in fact does not icrease HP and could even lead to a decrease in HP. Any info relating to this would be greatly appreciated since the answer to this question has evaded me for so long. BTW, I currently do not own a Z, but I am planning on purchasing one soo…
