Well I finally got the top half of the engine apart and here is what I have found, (so far). Well first of all I broke of one of the head bolts eeeek . Then I found that the #5 injector tip was cracked. The exhaust manifold was cracked right down the middle, the exhaust stud was broken off (not by me). And I also took the intake in to have it bored out for the new throttle body which is going to cost 200.00. And I always wondered why my car ran like s--t, now I know. Well tomorrow is half off at pick and pull so I will be heading down there to get an exhaust manifold and a head bolt and whatever else I need for the 5 speed swap. My question is what type or year Z i…

Well, I went to move the Z out of the garage and when I pressed the clutch down it has no pressure. No resistance what so ever. It has plenty of fluid - which looks like it should be changed. It gave no warning, she sat for a few days and now this. Master or slave cylinder is the question? My guess would be slave. Any other ideas? Nate

Just re-united with my Z after 2-1/2 years and while checking the fluids I noticed the top cover on the plastic cap on my clutch master cylinder is separating from the side. It's about 1/3rd of the way off. Is it dangerous to drive? Where can I get a replacement? Could I Super Glue it?

I need a little help. I have a series 1 made in 1/71 and have the splash pan, but need the original machine screws which have 5mm shafts, 1.0 pitch, and 8mm head. There are nine screws. Anyone have a spare set they are willing to sell? It's the little stuff thats a bear to find. Thanks for any help. Dan Original owner, 240Z hls30-20419 IZCC# 12324

Can anyone help me to understand what year and model (2+2, turbo, N/A, etc) cars came with what block casting and head? I thought I'd seen that info somewhere, but have been looking for days with no luck. Is there a matrix or something already put together. I bought a '73 AT 240Z and thought I'd find a donor car since I want an L28 and a 5spd. I will probably want a lower rear end also. I may build a stroker motor and the consensis seems to be the F54 block is the ticket. I'm not sure which head or what year cars have most of the parts I'd want. An 81-83 NA 5spd would have the tranny and rear end, but I'm not sure about the block and head. Well, I'm rambling so, if you ca…

My fuel pump seems to have quit pumping fuel. I tried to get it to pump fuel into a jar and it was bone dry. I disconnected it from the gas tank like to test if it was sucking and it was pretty weak. I took it apart and everything inside LOOKS to be fine :disappoin Any suggestions on where to go? I was thinking I'd try that RX-7 pump that has worked for others, but my local junk yard was no help there. I also found this little pump, but I've read it is reliable, but loud. I don't know if I want to spend $50 to find out if it's too loud. Or maybe I should spend a bit more and get something like this ? :stupid: Matt

Hi guys and gals, I sprung a leak in my '79 280ZX radiator. it is a small hole, in an easily accessible location, and i was wondering if it is easy to fix something like this. it looks like the hole was caused by a dent in the tube, probably from a rock. Also, what materials are required, and any other advice would be appreciated. I know the best solution would be to buy a new radiator, but I'd rather fix this one. Thanks, Ty

My Z started making noises like a U joint flange had come loose so I inspected each joint and found that the left flange that connects to the left stub axle was just flopping around. Removal of the flange revealed that the staked nut had sheared off right where the threads meet the splines. I had a spare stub axle so I drove out the broken axle and installed the spare. The original broken axle had a larger diameter threaded section then the replacement and it used the staked nut. The replacement used a nylock nut. The replacement also had a copper bushing and the original axle didn't. I installed the copper bushing with the replacement stub axle. When I test drove th…

Please forgive me for asking a question that has been asked before .. but I would like to be sure of the answer. I just bought a very clean 77 280 ..some body rust but otherwise in complete condition and runs and drives great, interior perfect.. $700 CAD. I intend to restore this car and would like to change the auto over to a 5 spd and install carbies instead of the FI system. Can someone please tell me what parts I need for the auto swap and any things to watch out for. It seems to be this should be quite easy. And also what are the pros and cons of the carbie's over the FI? I just dont like the FI system either looks of it or the akward operation of it compared to othe…

Hi All - I bought a project and I'm not really sure of what I have. Some pictures are in my gallery. This was gutted and fiberglass 1/4s and fenders were added (well, one 1/4 was 'installed') to make a SCCA/race car. The L24 is long gone but I received an N42 L28 in the deal that appears to have new pistons & rods. First of all it's a 9/71 production date 240Z - is this a `71 or `72? My guess is a 72. Here's the short block: N42 L28 (#119106) P30 crank (what crank is this - is it good?) new pistons with the designation "50 mm / ID .12" on the top of them I have 2 heads: a bare E88 with what appears to be some mild porting a N47 with what appears to be a fresh valve…

I tried a few searches but came up empty handed. A link would be great. I bought my 240Z from the original owner who says the original engine was rebuilt, but the paper work from 1991 says, Qty..Part number........Name of part..........................Price 1.....1010B-P7110RE....Reman Niss. Eng --> 7/79........1515.13 which leads me to believe he bought a remanufactured engine which would not be numbers matching. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks, Z
