Started up the car after work the other day and the head sounded like it has something broken in it. With the sound of cash registers ringing in my ears, I wonder if I could get some help/information regarding a rebuild. The thing is, at some stage in the future I would like to build an L31. I don't have the room to put the original block aside at the moment so I will have to stick with the L24 for the time being. As I might as well do a head rebuild properly, I don't want to throw money at something which is suitable for the L24 and not an L31. Basically, what I'm asking is - is there an appropriate head which I can build up, put on the L24 block and then later use on an…

I have a 78 280z, 4-speed manual transmission. The transmission works great, but there's a lot of play in the shift control lever.. I'm thinking that the control lever bushings may be dried out. I bought a pair of bushings, but before I go crazy I was wondering if the bushings can be replaced from the interior by removing the console and boots...or do I have to drop the transmission and do it from there. Any ideas?

I was sucked in by a TV infomercial for this stuff years ago. Here's an ebay link that basically gives you the lowdown on what it's supposed to do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4559991153&category=6755&sspagename=WDVW and for those of you who want the official skinny, here's the manufacturer's website: http://www.zmax.com/ Okay, now, I've already gone through and seen some threads about people thinking about using oil additives in engines that are potentially choked with carbon on the inside, and I've seen that those people are generally deterred from using 'cleaning' products in their engine. I'm to understand that th…

Anybody with technical knowledge of this transmission model? I need to know how to fix the following problem. When cold, it shifts nice in first gear for the next 500 feet and after, there is no more power for three to five seconds. Its like the engine is disconnected from the transmission. I give some throttle and it engages back. When hot, this problem never happens and always shifts properly. I check the oil level when hot and the engine idling and it is at the low level. With the engine shut the oil level is at full. This problem happens when I turn at the corner of the street and I am wondering if it is not the pump that sucks air because of not having enough oil. I…

My 71 has been running really poor lately. Well, I took a compression test and WOW, no compression on 2,3 and 4 - no wonder. It appears that the exhaust valves on all three (2,3,4) are really tight. Even when I adjust the the screew all the way down, I cannot get a feeler gauge under it. All the other valves are all about right. Suggestions short of ripping the head off?

Does anyone know of a way to identify a particular cam through measurement? At least to see what clearances would be needed.

Well, on the way home today i found antifreeze pouring into the passenger side of my 280Z. Luckily i was able to pressurize the system and find it only appears to be a hose that leads to the heater core. Here is my question. How much of my dash am i going to have to tear apart to get up there so i can work. It seems to be up near the top where the hoses first come into the car. I thought i would ask before i go in ripping out a buch of stuff i don't really need to.

So I thought my heater core broke, it was fine, so I figured it must be a hose under there. Just now i was able to see that the hoses were all fine as well. I have traced the leak down to the brass looking valve thingy (<-- Descriptive arn't I) that the hoses go into under the dash. Does anyone know what this thing is called exactly and where i could find one? 77 280Z with dealer installed AC.

I have a Centerforce II pressure plate and disc. I have a 240 clutch arm, t/o bearing and slave cylinder. All of these items will be in a 83 Maxima 5-speed tranny with a stock steel flywheel. I have both collars available: 240 and 280Z. Which t/o collar works with the Centerforce II clutch? I need someone who has installed one of these clutches and KNOWS the correct info, please! Which throwout bearing do I use?
