Boiling fuel? 1 2 3

Some time ago I posted this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10041 but never resolved my issue. Basically whenever the under hood temperature rises, my engine begins to stumble at idle. This happens at moderate temps, such as today when the air temp was about 60. If I let the engine idle for a few minutes the problem begins. Today I discovered that when the problem occurs, I can see bubbles coming out of the fuel filter mounted on the right fender. (The filter is clear plastic.)The fuel level in the filter is almost at the bottom of it. I'm running an electric fuel pump only (no mechanical), although I used to have the same problem when I u…

Before I replace the electric fuel pump on my 75 280z, I want to "flush" the gas tank out. The car has sat for the last 10-12 years. The previous owner drained the fuel tank while the car sat. The tank has a plug on the bottom and I removed it and stuck my finger in the hole and swiped the inside surface with a shop towel. No flakes or debris just a rust colored ash. The question is: Should I pour acetone in the tank to rinse the tank or use the fuel system cleaners at Walmart? There are no holes and the tank appears to be in good condition. I do not want to damage the new fuel pump. Any other ideas/tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Im trying to remove the propeller shaft on my 78 280. I got a little bit confused once I was getting ready to disconnect the shaft from the companion flange. Now, I have both the Chiltons Manual and the Factory Service manual and they both just say to "remove the four bolts from the companion flange" It looks very hard to get to them. The bolt with the tapered head is pointing to the rear and the differential carrier is in the way of getting to the bolts easy. Am I missing something here? Any Help would be kindly appreciated, since I am trying to move on with this project tonight. Regards M.K.

Seems that my z needs a new clutch. So far I have done all the work on the car and am not about to take it in to get a clutch put in by a mechanic, so i am going to do it myself. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should look out for or anything that may make it easier to do the drop and swap??Thanks for your help.

I've had a problem with my car for a long time and am wondering if this is typical of the car, or unique to mine. When I press on the go pedal there's considerable resistance then it breaks loose and the car lurches forward. It's hard to make a smooth take off. I checked the linkage and everthing is smooth and free turning with the engine off, then I started the car and the stiffness is there. It's like the vacuum on the throttle plates is causing the resistance. Does anyone know about this problem and how to correct , or minimize it ? Thanks for any help.

Can anybody tell me what kind of petrol does a 240 need? Leaded or unleaded. This particular car is a 1972 US 240Z with a complety stock engine. At the moment i'm using an lead-alternative to enrich the petrol, just to be on the save side, but it is pretty expensive stuff, and when the engine doesn't need it I will be glad to get rid of it. Thanks Emil

Looking for the phone number of Nissan Motorsports... I am in need of a set of teflon w/pin buttons for my L6 engine. I need to call these guys to see if they have any lying around. I know this is old tech stuff but it will work on my engine. I am putting Z22S pistons and they use a press fit pin. I have the rods already sized and they are floated. I need a set of wrist pin buttons to put the bottom end together. Anyone know where I can order a set of these buttons? Links? Web page? Phone numbers? __________________

My 72 240Z has the original muffler and resonator and the muffler chrome is getting a little rusty and so I'd like to replace it with something that looks and sounds better. I was originally thinking of using a Monza tip, but apparently they don't make them anymore. I don't really want to replace the whole system just the muffler at this time. What can I put in place of the stock muffler that will look nice and sound lower and more throaty ?

Hello to Everyone Out There!!! This is my first post that I've made on this site so please frogive me if I say anything dumb :nervous: . I have a 78 280Z with the five speed, all stock, which I pulled out of the woods last spring after it sat behind my house for the last 17 years (this was my uncle's old car) I now have it running awsome and inspected but I have a problem that I have not been able to solve. I just recently changed the transmission fluid and it now shifts hard from first to second gear unless it is very warm out or it has been driven for quite a while. It did not do this before I changed the fluid and all other …
