Hi everyone, I just bought a 72 240z 4 speed from the original owner. I was wondering some estimated proformance figures on it, the L24 motor is running the following.. - Twin SU carbs rebuilt recently - stage 1 or 2 cams (redone with the head the same time as the carbs) - Motorsport Header - 2 1/4 all the way back exaust Thanks in advance

I finally decided on what I'm going to do with my 240.. It's been sitting in the garage while I've been debating on weather to keep the car, and get it painted or put it back together and sell it as is.... I'm going to keep the car, and get the paint job.. Now a question about the heater, and radiator core, and related hoses. The car has been sitting for about 3 to 4 years, while I've been replacing this and that on the car. I have tried to be good about starting it up once every 3 to 6 months and let it idle up to temp, just to charge the battery, and circulate the coolant, and oil. I know coolant, and oil brake down due to age, and should be replaced every so often, a…

Hi, I just bought a 72 240z, second owner 112,000 miles. No dash cracks! This car is in great shape, all original. I would like to increase performance. Where should I start? Where is the best place to purchase parts? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gordon

I recently purchased the engine below on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4539470286&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT It comes with the P90A head which I have never looked into because of the work involved to use it on high compression n/a applications. My understanding is that these used 'hydraulic lifters'. After looking at a few pictures of them, I don't see any noticable differences in the valvetrain. Could someone post some pictures of the P90A in detail? I just dont understand where the lifters come into play. Thanks

Hi guys, So i swapped my old points distrubtor today for an electronic 280z one (I am very impressed) and i thought it might aleviate this problem i'm having with an intermittent popping sound when the car is idling, but it's still there. The car idles at 550 rpm beautifully, then every once in a while you get this popping sound (like a hickup) somewhere within the intake, then it goes back to normal idle, until it happens again ~30 sec later. This repeats all the time while the car is idling. It in no way affects preformance, on the gas, (The car pulls extremely cleanly and quickly to 6K, with the new electronic dist i might add) Any ideas?

In regards to the glass fuel filters, are they able to take the pressure of the fuel injection systems? I just replaced my fuel filter can, and the gas that came out was darker than mud. I put on a new filter, but would like to put on a glass one also, so I can check it often. thx

Here is the story, got an extra head when i bought a 78 z ,supposed to be for Z, took to machine shop to go thru it and do valve job. They think it is a 80's model N47, any way to futher identify other than N47, have intension of putting it on my 77, cause the cam is trashed on it. It has no oiler tube, holes in the cam lobes, no place to plug up in the cam towers. am i screwing up by swaping it without knowing what it is, hell dont know anything else about the motor either????????

I just picked up a lightweight flywheel and want to swap out my lightened flywheel while motor/tranny is still on the car. I wanted to get some advice before I do this, and don't want to go through the aggravation of screwing it up or having to re-do it for whatever reason. I plan to do this in my garage, with the floor jack and jack stands, and have use of a impact wrench as well for the any heavy duty torquing if needed. The centerforce dual friction clutch has been in there about 8 years, and is working well. The clutch tends to be a bit grabby so I know the flywheel probably needs to be surfaced. I am generally nice to my clutch and don't just drop it at 5000rpms eve…

I just dropped in a lightwheight Flywheel, which I bought off Ebay. I had a shaved stock flywheel before, which weighed in at 16 lbs. The new one is billet Steel, 10.8 lbs (4.4kgs), made by Trust. It's working great and taking off 5 more lbs, was a worthwhile investment btw. Engine accelerates faster, and easier between gear changes... The only thing is, when I start the car, the starting sounds of flywheel sounds totally different from the stock cast iron flywheel. I do accept the fact that the difference in metals and the difference in mass itself is going to sound different, but just wanted to get opinions from anyone else who may have gone through this. When I speeak…

Hi all, I have what I am assuming is an aftermarket cruise control mounted to the firewall. About a 4" can with a beaded chain going to the throttle linkage. Since I have a duplicate in my parts box from the PO's donor parts car, I thought it might have been a dealer installed option or just a popular '70s addon. As far as I can tell it is no longer connected to the electrical system. The wiring goes thru the firewall and ends in a tangle under the glove box. I plan on ripping it all out since I vaguely remember (yeah, I'm that old) they weren't that great, the controls don't look stock, and I never plan on using cruise anyway. There are also 2 wires going to the front …
