What is the maximum amount that a flat top piston can protrude above the deck at TDC After installing my pistons I am seeing a positive height above the deck of between 0.008 and 0.010 of an inch (8 and 10 thou). I am using a fel-pro gasket that, uncompressed is 50 thou and compressed should be 40 thou. Does 40 thou - 10 thou (30 thou) = trouble or will I still have enough to give adequate piston to head clearance and tight enough to give a good squish area. If this is a problem would I be better for safeties sake to us a slightly thicker head gasket ?? Once again Phred if you’re around I would really appreciate your input Ta

Since the air in the intake chamberis at a closer temperature to what goes passed the injectors and into the cylinders, wouldn't it be a good idea to move the temp sensor from the AFM to someplace in the large chamber of the Intake? thx

Okay, i guess my freeze plug(s) on the back of my engine have cracked or have holes. It has been going through antifreeze quickly and its been dripping from the bottom around the mounting plate. Has anyone ever had to have this fixed on their car? About how much may this end up costing me. Im afraid i don't know enough about this kind of thing to do it myself. Im guessing the transmission is going to have to come out, right? any help? im scared i may not have enough $$ to get this done.

Can you get the plastic Air duct tube that I see in the FSM for the 280Z? I think it might be good to have one because otherwise it's sucking hot air from the underside of the hood. Maybe you could even substitute something else. Other that that, trying to get cooler air to the intake system requires a ricer-type c.a.i. system. thx

I've been taking certain pieces off the top of my fuel-injected L28 engine and cleaning them individually, and I plan on re-installing the stuff before I go after the injector rail. So far I took of the AFM and the Aux air regulator. there were some steel brackets that I removed that hold hoses in place. These were 'protected' by a layer of crud, but after cleaning it looks like it's bare steel. I'd like to protect these in some whay before I put them back on. I've heard of people soaking chain in ATF or some mineral oil or something to prevent rusting. Any thoughts? I'm going after the fuel rail soon. Engine looking too nice now to drive around and re-rust them. …

I have recently picked up a 1972 240Z that I plan to restore. This car has been sitting for quite sometime....since 1999 to be exact. I plan on draining and cleaning the fuel tank of course, but was looking for suggestions on what to do before attempting to turn the engine over....such as spark plug removal and spraying lube in the cylinders etc. Any suggestions that will make this a less stressful event for my engine would be welcomed. At this point....actual starting of the engine is not important.I am just making sure it will turn over first. Thanks loads!!

There is one on ebay with more miles than mine right now for $450 starting bid. Is it worth that much? Is their a demand for this engine/trans? I'm just wondering because i never thought that the original setup would fetch any money. If it does i may be closer to a motor swap than i thought. What do you guys think?

Can anyone tell me (from experience) what the acceptable piston ring gap should be on an L28 with standard sized pistons Have read all the books (How to rebuild, Haynes etc) and it varies from 9 thou to 18 thou, however I am just installing new rings on some dished pistons and without gapping them I am seeing 20 thou on both top and bottom sets. The bores look good (86.02 - 86.03 mm max and practically no taper) with cross hatch honing marks clearly visible (engine has only done 5K since last rebuild) old rings show 22 thou and car made 158 Bhp at the wheels when last dyno’d. Moving on from this has anyone used total seal (or such like) gap-less rings ??? Phred it would…
