I just purchased a set of 8mm 240 rods for my new engine. The rods have been lightened and have had ARP bolts installed. What is the proper torque for these rod bolts? They are 8mm.

My Z car has been doing this for a while now, but i have been busy with other more necessary problems to really worry about it. For some reason, If I am approching a stop, and the car is warm, the moment i put in the clutch, the engine will go up to 3k RPM and will hold there until the car comes to a stop. If I am driving and the engine is cold, it won't do this. This really bugs me and i think is one of the factors of my 15Mpg fuel economy. I would be greatful for any help in fixing this problem or for ways to impove my gas mileage. This is a 77' 280Z.

I have a 7-71 240 with a 3 hole upper thermostat housing. Is this correct? Do you have a 2 or 3 and what is the production date? Note sure what the extra hole is used for, since one of the other holes holds on the sparkplug wire loom. My lower housing only has 2 holes. Thanks Keith

who can help me? I have a 1971 240z. I had to bore it three over and I had to deck the block two down.In the block I have flat top pistons. I'm also installing 280Z vales in my E31 head. And I plan on putting a header on also. Other than that every thing is stock and I plan on keeping it that way. So what cam do you advise me to get. MSA's third package sparks my intrest but some say that it will make you slugish out of the hole. But a guy at MSA tolled me to get six pounds shaved off my fly wheel and it will fix the problem, is this true and how much will it help. I'm not looking to make a total race car, but just Excellent street performance. And I am also wounde…

Just got my P90A head with big valves, ported intake and exhaust and a new WEB Cam kit, with grind #91. It has .450 " lift both intake and exhaust, the duration is 260` and the lobe centers are intake 106`, exhaust 111`. I know we used to run .620 lift and 310` duration on our racing 2.8's but then that was real racing and this is a street engine. Has anyone used this #91 Web grind? What are it's charactoristics? I know the hydraulic lifters do not like a lot of lift. What rpm's will this camshaft work... 6,500? More? Less? The engine will be a balanced and blueprinted 2995cc with 9.3 cr, SU's and 6-3-1 header on it. It will be run in a restored '71 Z with a 5-speed and 3…

I've just removed the valve cover for the first time to inspect the cam. The sockets in the cylinder head bolts are full of sludge but the rest of the inside of the head and cover seems fairly clean. I haven't looked inside any other Zcar engines so I don't know if this is normal. Any wisdom from someone who’s got more experience would be appreciated. I’m now afraid of what’s in the oil pan. I was checking out some antifreeze leaks on my 280Z and noticed this in the pic.... the #6 hole has some sort of burnt material around it, poillibly a leak of somesort, its not black but more of a brown color, the rest of the plug entrys are clean as a whistle... Could it be a dead cylinder (I do not know exsactly what the prerequisites are for this proplem)? Any help would be highly appreciated...

G'day all. I looked at the posts on the net and they've been very helpful so far with dealing with my fan clutch. I'm swapping back to it 'cos my electric fan sucks - or more to the point it doesn't. But, after taking it apart, i still find it hard to turn the bearing (while it is apart) (the big half). It turns, but it isn't exactly free to spin. Is this usual? Is there some way i can get a new bearing so it can free wheel better? Thanks
