I've been gathering alot of info from various places on the net... and after many posts and collecting of feedback, I've decided on a carb swap for my 77 280Z... I feel that I will be much happier in the end. I'm going for an N42 Head.... L24 intake and linkage, and SU's... This is the setup I hope to accomplish. I know there will be a few things I'll have to rearrange and configure. I am seeking a completel list of what I will need, if anyone might know of where I can find a comprehensive one, please let me know

I dont have a mic so I cant measure the bore accurately, but I have testing the ring end gap...and with new rings, the top ring has a gap of about 25 thou.... Im off to the wreckers to see what the measurements are with some other L28s....but from this measurement it looks like I might need a new block right ? (PS...I guess its pretty obvious by now that I'm rebuilding my engine and its my first time :paranoid: ) Ray

Hi everyone, I have stripped my engine down and found something quite confusing. I am the third owner of this car and when I bought it off the second owner it had done 175200 km (109000 miles). When the second owner bought it, it had done 42500 km and was 4 years old. To his knowledge the engine was original and had not been reconditioned when he bought it. I have confirmed through records that it is indeed the engine that the car left the factory with. When pulling the engine down all parts are Nissan and the general condition of the engine backs up what I have found out as far as being unreconditioned. Now the confusing part. The crankshaft main journals all measure up…

Well, I had taken switching to carbs a serious consideration, but I believe I'm going to try to cope with the EFI (considering I have a 78 parts car with many usable parts). Well, the whole reason around my frustration with EFI is how strange it has been acting.... Here's the story.... I have had the car for a month now. When I first got it back home, it ran fine... no surges, no cutting out, no missing... Only thing I really noticed is that it was set to idle higher and was running richer and I smelled fumes while decelling(only when the window was open). I idled it down to 1000RPM and it helped the gas consumption alot. About a week later, I had been making a run th…

In the haynes manual it says that I should put some 'jointing' compound onto the main caps when I install them. What compound are they referring to? Also...does anyone put loctite on the backside of their bearings when installing them ? Cheers Ray

Hey guys, I have been contemplating the many things one can do to a 77280Z and I keep asking myself... what should I do after I have straightend out my body work and paint.. I am merely brainstorming, seeing as I will start moding most likely in march, give or take a month... I have considerd maybe replacing my EFI with carbs... but I have read on other forums that the EFI can be more finly tuned(however difficult). While carbs are easier to maintain and use but are not as accurate when tuning... I would like everyones opinions on this one... Thanks guys, Im still learning with my Z -ZZZap

I just completed an ebay purchase for a triple weber setup for my Z. I am so happy I should be dancing in the street. Not only was the price right (esp since everyone has them marked up over 200% since the factory went on strike) but they are Italian made not spanish. No idle air bypass to fool with, brass floats etc. Carbs on ebay some of my other recent purchases Timing set

Hey guys, i recently found a good deal on a fuel pump at part source, $75.00, because mine wasnt making alot of pressure. So i go in and ask the guy to double check on the computer that this will work on a FUEL INJECTED 2.8L from a 280z. he tells me again "yes yes yes" like i was an idiot, so i take it home and fire it on to the Datsun (took a while) and i start it up. Minus the start it up part, it clearly wasnt pumping out even half of the pressure it needed, when i took it off and tested it out with a 12v and a pressure gauge it got up to 3psi. So of course i swear alot and get pissed off, then i go the part maker's website, and under 240z,260z and 280z is the exact sa…

well, my rear SU died today on the way to work. i'm driving, then all of a sudden the car starts shuddering and dies. i think it's out of gas (since it's on E) and so i get a gas can and fill it. get the car running (rough) and pop the hood. tada! gas is pouring out of my rear air cleaner and the float bowl of the carb... great.... anyway, i'm planning on getting the ztherapy carbs, but do you think it would be worth it to check some other options (rebuild my own carbs, get rebuilt ones from a local source)? i'm kind of strapped for cash (very), that's the reason i ask. anyway, i'm leaning towards the ZT carbs since i'm going to end up getting them anyway, but it looks li…

Hey guys, for a while now i have been thinking about a l28et, can anyone tell me of mods people do on them and how the stock turbo performs, or if people replace them, and how to get more horse power out of one? Also, does anyone know of a 3000/3100 stroker turbo engine ever being done?
