I am buying a 1973 240z. The guy who is selling it to me has done lots of modifications to the car, L28 engine with flat top pistons, ZX 5 speed, Tripple Webbers, among others. The car comes with lots of parts including an n42 head complete and ready to go. The current head is from a maxima and i am told that it has a really bad cam. Like one of the lobes are messed up. I want to put on the n42 before I start the motor. When I put on the n42, what precautions should I take? I have a few books, but are there any tricks or tips that I should know? Help would be great Dan Wetmore

Hello all... I have a set of 44 PHH Triple Mikuni's with the intake, along with a selection of jets for dialing them in... This set is off of my '74, with moving, some Z's have to go away to make room for just one, I am forced to make some choices here. At any rate, I though I'd see if there was any interest from the club before I place them on Ebay. I hate to part with them, but my next car won't need anything more than SU's with SM needles... The '74 and the '71 are both going away, but I plan on retaining some items for the next Z should I find one that I like... They work excellent, I will post a fresh pic soon. Appearance of the Trip's is good, they are cle…

In the process of trying to find out what is broken in the engine we have discovered metal shavings & a couple of pieces in the bottom of the pan. Can anyone tell me what would cause this?

Is there a guide on the crank pulley that insures that you get it back on in the correct position so the timing marks are still valid?

What seems to be the problem... At first I thought it must be the gasket between the fuel pump and the spacer, so I put on a new gasket and sealant. Then the problem persisted. It only leaks maybe 5-10ml after a 30km drive, but when the engine bay is nice and clean it can pi$$ me off no end. How can I fix this? After a second look closely with the car running and nice and warm, it is definately spitting out from that little hole on the fuel pump. Luke

My '70 Z had dealer installed AC. There's an extra pully mounted on the crank in front of the regular pully(s). I removed the two small bolts that were there and put a gear puller on it. Can I just crank on the gear puller now and pull it off? Is seems to have more resistance than I expected. Thanks

Hey All, I'm starting to think about getting my E88 head finished up, it's already shaved and ported but needs new valve guides, seals and inlet seat. So adding in bigger valves at the same time makes good sense. I've been looking at the S/S ones from Arizona Z as these seem pretty good value. Inlet sizes are 46mm or 44mm, exhaust are 38mm or 35mm. Now is there any engine building logic here that suggests I should say have a big inlet and regular exhaust ot a big exhaust ('cuse me) and a regular inlet or should I just get the two larger sizes? The head will go on an F54 block bored +2mm so there shouldn't be any issues with valves bashing the cylinder walls right? Thanks …

how would you tune 3x mikuni carbs? it's a 280 block in a 73 w/ a 4sp if that makes any diff. seems to sputter @ anything over 4k RPM. maybe cause the flatspot is around 3-4k from all the freeway mi. is there anything that can be done short of dyno tuning? under WOT from dead stop, it sputters till 2.5-4.5k range and does it till limit. w/ less of a lead foot it's not as bad but still does it in higher RPM's. seems to run very rich cause it smells like fuel inside the car. also the black carbon speckles in the driveway can't be a good thing. my uncle had this car in storage for a few yrs. till i picked it up 2-3yrs ago to make it my daily commuter. i think i'm gett…

This is what my z does, i get off the freeway after my 40 mile commute, stop to get a bite and park for like 5-7 mins. I come back out to start it up and she barely turns over. The engine is very warm, but not overheated. The battery eventually gets it to start but it sounds like it's ready to give out. Battery is about 18 months old, previous owner installed it. Does this ever happen to anyone?? P.S. When i come out to start it cold, it's fine!
