Well my poor baby is now in the shop.. We were going along fine until we stopped at a red light then..when I went to shift into first I thought I was in a bull riding competition! The clutch was fully engaged and I was giving her the right amount of gas to go and all the engine did was rev and the car creeped a long like it was straining to go and bucked a few more times before I was able to get it over to the side of the road and turn it off. Tried to leave again and the same thing started to happened again but then all the sudden everything seemed to engage and we took off like a rocket! So now it is in the shop. I did notice that the exhaust start to smell rich…

I'm assuming the clatter I hear inside the valve cover of my 73Z is attributable to: 1) soggy springs causing poor contact between the rocker arm and the camshaft, and/or 2) wear and tear on the cam and rocker arms causing improper clearances which leads to slapping. I know MSA has an entire kit for about $470 to replace the valvetrain with performance parts, but if I just want to leave my engine stock, what's the most likely/affordable way to clean up the clatter in the engine? Thanx! Justin 73 240Z

I have an offer to trade parts of my 1983 L28 Turbo motor for a complete late model non-turbo motor with SU carbs. If it can be worked out we've agreed to pay shipping each way for the swap. Unfortunately my trading partner and I are in opposite corners of the country. I just need some advice on what would be the most cost effective way for me to have his motor shipped from Florida to Washington State. I figure it can be put on a pallet and wrapped in plastic and truck shipped. Anyone in the Hurricane State have any recommendations as to what trucking line to contact or how much this would cost me? As my Florida friend only wants the goodies off my motor and not the…

Hey Everyone! I just purchased a 1972 240z a few days ago and I love the car! Its a blast to drive! I just have a few questions. I am a bit of a novice mechanic but I am willing to try working on just about any aspect of the car but electrical. The whole electrical thing makes me nervous. :nervous: And here are my few questions--- Oil Pressure Gauge is a little wacky. It stays at 90 when I first crank it up in the morning and will eventually go back down to about mid way after the car gets a chance to warm up. Though I noticed today that it shot back up after an oil change but came back down. I revved up the car and checked to make sure the oil filter did not buldge and…

I'm just getting started tearing down an L28E engine to retrieve the F54 block as part of a future stroker motor. Unfortunately, as I was hoisting the engine to put it on a stand, I discovered that one of the tranny mounting holes was stripped. It's the hole located at one o'clock as you look at the engine from the backside. I don't remember the actual bolt size and pitch, but I should be able to figure that out from other blocks I have laying around. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I presume the best thing is to use a threaded insert like a Helicoil, but where is the best place to get one of those? And how hard is it for an infrequent mechanic to install…

What color was the oil pan on the L24's? Was it blue like the block or was it black? Thanks

I have a few questions: Can anyone tell me what size flywheels the different Z cars have? Also, how interchangeable are they? How do you determine what flywheel you should install (i.e. based upon engine block, tranny model, etc)? And how do you determine what clutch you need to buy (i.e. based upon engine block, tranny, flywheel, etc)?

I was wondering if these plans would boost the power of the 240 to around 200. Also, has anyone tried any of these, and do these sound like good ideas? I know it's a little over-kill, but you guys be the judge, im new at this. My plans include: Stage II, Performance Cam Performance Pistons and rings Motorsport headers Turbo Exhaust system Centerforce II clutch New Flywheel Mallory Dual Point Distributor XR 70 Ignition Crane LX-92 Coil Iridium NGK plugs Blue Taylor Hi-Pro wires Rocker arm, lash pad, and spring kits Weber 40DOCE tripple carb kit with Air Horns, and K&N filters That's about it as far as the motor itself. I'll also add upgraded fuel filters and pump. Ot…

Anyone see any issues with the below that I have missed? My engine is soon to be out of the car and will be for some time. I'm going to store it on a dolly of some kind while the body is finished. I don't want the engine to get surface rust in the bores, so would it OK to leave the oil in it and hook up the starter motor now again and turn it over (without the spark pulgs in) to get oil pressure up. Will this lube cam, main bearings and generally keep everything in check????
