Need Advice on swapping the engine from the '74 to the '71 or possibly another car... Is you experience, is it easier to pull the unit out as one part (engine and tranny) or seperate the two? Let me know the shortcuts if any?? Thanks guys, I have a buch of decisions coming soon on cars and what to do with 'em... I really need a good car in need of a motor / tranny... I'm just not sure that the '71 (unfortunatly is going together as planned... Thanks and have a great day! ~Brian

Oh man, I went to go start my car today and the starter turned very slow and then I attempted to start it again and the starter stopped and now when I turn the key to "start" the starter does not make any sound at all. The only thing I hear is the relay under the dash. I have been reading up on the fusible link, the solenoid, and the starter. And I am not sure which one it could be. I don't have my service manual so I am really hindered. I have an early 1974 260z. Any help on this would be great as I am trying not to spend a lot of money. Where should I look for a new starter if that is the case? p.s. When I was looking around in the engine bay I noticed that …

Why is it that the inline fuel injected 6 cyl engine in Z cars needs a min of 91 octane fuel when 8 cyl as well as 4 cyls will run well on 87 octane. My Z owners manual says use a min of 91 octane, but our sons Mits Eclipse runs great on 87 , our Caddy runs great on 87 and has an 8 cyl engine..but the Z is supposed to have 91... This is not about the cost of fuel , its a question about why the Z has to have the higher octane 77 Z

Does anyone know the significance of the casting numbers on the Driver's side on the lower portion of the engine block? Is there a special code for day, month & year for production date? For example, on the old Pontiac GTOs of the mid & late '60s, a letter such as an "X" stood for the 24th day of the month and a "4" would indiate that the engine was made the 4th week of the month, etc.

Ok, time to tune up the 280Z, and I wanted to test compression while I have the plugs out. Haven't run a compression check on any car for probably 20 years, so I opened up the factory manual to read what it wants me to do. I assumed I had to keep fuel from being injected through the EFI system. Factory manual wants me to disconnect all the injector connectors and the cold start injector connector. AFTER running the engine up to temp. However, those connectors are pretty brittle by now, and I'll have to be very careful with them. It's likely to take 15 minutes or more to carefully disconnect all the connectors and remove the plugs. By then, the engine will still be…

Hi All, This is my first post although i have been reading for years! Any way i am having trouble making up my mind as to which way to take my project. Here's a little history: I purchased a 71 240 to restore/ modify with the intent to make a very good auto X car that i can still drive on the weekends. Before i started on the project i saw an ad for a 73 240 with a 383 stroker V8 and auto from California for $1100. The car was in good shape seemed to only need paint. I bought it with the intention of painting and selling it to fund the 71 project. It turned out that one of the front fenders on the 73 had alot of bondo on it so i decided to take a fender from the 71 and pu…

Hello everyone, I am building a fun 1970 240Z. Would you all recommend the MSA headers and 2 and a 1/4 in pipe for a built 280 block for the most performance. Let me know. Thanks, Rick.

How you guys doin? This is my first post but I've been reading the forums for a couple of days to see if anyone had any information on E31 porting. Havnt found what I'm looking for but there are a lot of threads... But the story is: I just bought a 1971 240Z in sorry shape from a lady for $500, and immediatly started tearing through the engine in hopes of my first all out rebuild. Long story short I'm starting out on the heads and already bought a cam (480 lift, 274 duration) next on my list was valves, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good valve size that they used and any advice that they might be able to throw my way. As far as the car goes, I was think…
