E31 Head ?s 1 2

I've got an E31 head on its way from Portland. It appears to be in pretty good shape and I was thinking of putting it on an L28, preferably with flat-top pistons. Are there any problems with having too much compression? Should I be thinking about bigger valves. OR.... I currently have an E88 on my L24, would it be better to just swap the E31 onto it, rather than going with the L28? I have a 1971 240Z with a build date of 12/70 and has most of the features of the first gen. Series 1 body, interior, etc., but the engine numbers don't match and someone has already swapped a 5 speed in, so doing a total restore to make it original is not what I have in mind. I like…

I was wondering, and im sure some others were, what heads come of what years/models because i read about 'e31's and 'N-something-or-arthors' and i dont know what your all talking about. Im sure it would be helpful to alot of us if someone could name the heads avaliable for the L24/L26/L28 and their differences.

Hi, My Z got nice hose clamps but their screws looked different from the original round head screws. I went to the DIY shopping store,I found nice screws to meet my taste. But they were not be able to be applyed as they are, need to be trimed at the tip. I got a nice idea,I bought a drill machine and a sander to trim the tip of the round head screws. It did work!!I made roughly 30 screws for clamps. I want to show you. kats

Hi everyone I'm looking for a bit of guidance on headers/extractors for my L24 block with triple carbs. Problem: once I fitted my triple 45 webers, the existing (after-market) headers did not suit. The no.1 and no.6 pipes from the headers almost TOUCH the underneath of the inlet manifold (which runs from the carbs to the engine). Result: the fuel running through the inlet manifold is vapourising/bubbling away, so the car starts to *splutter* once the temperatures get up. Question: To any of you out there who are successfully running triple carb set-ups, WHAT BRAND OF HEADERS ARE YOU USING? Also, are you using any kind of heat resistant material (e.g. heat tape o…

There are two oil senders on the right side of my 83 280ZX block that I am putting in my 240. The one part I threw away, a short sender switch with a fuel injector type (2 electrical pins) cnnnector is all that is keeping me from starting it up. It goes behind the oil filter (the other one is the canister that goes in front of the filter) and towards the top of the short block. Seems like it would be a oil temperture sender, but I can't find it anywhere on the microfiche at carfiche.com. What the heck is it? What is the nissan part #. I would get a plug, because I don't need the switch but the hole appears to be some funky pipe thread pitch (spec).

When doing away with my points, is it better to use a petronix kit or a later model pointless dizzy swap?

Oh well, Since I changed water pump, thermostat, and 3 core radiator, my 240z (with L28, triple weber, header, comp cam) dropped water temp from the 240 degree range to 210-225(just past middle line, I would say 60%-70% of the gage. I still have not check the water temp by the cooking thermometer or cheep water temp gage. Is current temp(205-225 degree) safe for my engine? jaynez31

Hey All Im currently going over the engine bay trying to get it back to as original as possible. In my quest I have noticed that the inlet and exhaust manifolds have been removed before and reattached with incorrect type bolts. Close inspection revealed what I think to be an original bolt remaining in the forward most hole under the thermostat housing. This bolt is a Nissan spec bolt, the head is stamped with a 4 and it has a single lock washer and a single, oversize plain washer. I am yet to remove it so dont know if the washers are integral with the bolts. I thought that "7" spec bolts would be more appropriate for this application, but the car is an early car (believed…

I was removing my welsh plugs (maybe they are called freeze plugs in the US?) and I think I hit one a bit too hard when I was taking it out. There is a little pipe that comes out from where the cylinder walls meet, it comes out and then goes up to the top of the block....anyway, I actually think I broke it at the top. Is my block screwed? What was that pipe for ? I dont think all of the cylinder walls had the pipe coming out from between them, just a couple. Cheers Ray

Hello 240Z owners, I have a couple of queries about distributors and coils, in an attempt to gain more horsepower out of my L24 - 1. If I swap my standard 240 distributor and "sports" coil for a 280z (or zx) electronic distributor and coil, will that help driveability and/or horsepower? 2. If I reconnect the vacuum hose back to my distributor (or my NEW? 280 distributor), will I get more horsepower from the corresponding "advance" in the distributor? If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry - I barely do either! But I heard that disconnecting the vacuum hose which runs from the intake manifold to the distributor (which I did when I added triple carbs and …

Aloha, Just wondering if some of the products produced by Japanese aftermarket companies will fit LHD Z's. They have some nice looking stuff... Nostalgic & GT Sports Works Spirit Garage RS Start Of course, you have to download the Japanese text set for your computer to view most of this stuff. Mahalos, Joel
