if anyone would be willing to help me out, i just need someone with a 280z to pop off the black cover on the left side of the air flow meter and push the needle all the way over to full open and let me know where the silver needle (indicated by the red circle) sits. i have a picture there i made in paintbrush with numbers so you can use that or if you just want to copy my picture and put a dot to let me know where yours sits at. i would really appreciate anyone thats willing to help me out. thanks, aaron. afm.bmp

Hi, I am again, I have to live with Classic Z car, huh. Anyway, I am dificult finding corrent timing setting for my 240z has various mods: 1. the engine is L28 from 280zx with P-79 which proted and performance cam. 2. MSD ingition box with blaster coil with 8mm taylor wires. 3. '77 ignition and distributor(from privious owner's recipt) and 4. Motor sport header and 45 triple weber with cannon. The L28's timing is 8B-10B. How do such mods affect timing? It may be bit advance or retard? It might help my over heating issue too. ____________________________________ 240z rocks

Aloha, I'm new to Z-cars and have a couple of questions. What's the performance potential of the L24? I'm a basic mechanic and can do things like adding triple Webers, headers, exhaust and installing a hotter cam. Not big into engine swaps and forced induction. I like the sound of carbs at WOT. Also, did the 240Z come with 150bhp out of the box? A guy over on a Triumph forum stated that his tired old TR6 with 95bhp could easily dispatch equally tired-out 240Z's. Either my numbers are wrong or this guy is living in a dream world. Anyway, just really interested in 240Z's and would appreciate it if someone could point in the right direction so I can do some reading/rese…

Hey Z (and Zed) people! I just Droped in a bitch'n L28, F54, 20 thou over bore, N42, Miled cam, new valve train, MSA headers 6-2-1, 2 1/2" exaust, with dynaflow muffler, electronic dizzy, and lets not forget about the awsome SU's! I rebuilt my SU's with SM needles and stock nozzels. I'v checked the float levels, and there good. My big question is, How should I set up my Carb? How many turns should I start with on the nozzels. Can I tune them just like I would if I were tuning them for my L24? I'm wondering if I can get any tips from any one that has My new set up? I don't want to run to "fat" or to "lean". OK Z people let me soak in your wizdom!!! If you …

Hey I got a carb synch tool and worked on balancing my carbs on my 71 this weekend. I think I did ok, the car is running pretty good , although it wasn't that far off, but i have a question about setting the carb mixtures. When I lifted a piston in one carb to check the mixture, the engine continued to run ..roughly, so i'm told that means my mixture is a bit rich. OK, so when i went to raise the piston in the other carb she started to die, so that means Im running a bit lean. Does this mean when i raise a piston in one carb, the engine symptoms point to the condition of that carb, or the one I'm not rasing the piston in??

i have a 76 280z. when i bought it, it had an adjustable risistor on the wire that i believe tells the computer how much fuel to send. but it was broke and would flip out sometimes so i found what ohm it was at when it was running good and just put a resistor in place. me and my ad looked at it and figured the mass air flow sensor was probably messed up, plus it looked like it had been taken apart before. my car was running fine though, just rich, until recently it looses power over 4000 rpm, badly in 3rd and 4th gear. my theory is its sensing too much air and sending too much fuel, because when im over 4000 rpms and step on it it backfires alot and boggs down and actuall…

I am installing a new thermostat. The unit sold to me looks unusual, to my limited experience, and does not look the same as the one I took out: the opening is not centered. There is a narrow side of the flange and a wider side directly opposite. On the wider side is a small hole with a loose brass pin through it. Should this thermostat be inserted in the hole any particular way or just dropped in? It is a Stant.
