Was just given a 1982 280ZX that has been sitting for 20 years. The body is rusted beyond repair, but the engine only has 36,000 miles on it. This is the engine I would like to put in my 1970 Z (without the fuel injection). What should I do before running the engine?

Ok, I tried to take off the egr on my 77 280z(stock efi) and the 2 bolts holding it snapped. Now i Have The spacer that sits between the egr and the manifold is stuck on there. I tried to pry it off with no luck. Any suggestions anyone? If the bolts were fine i'd jus cap it off from there but the bolts are pretty rusted and need to come off. I need to get it off so that i can cap it. Its either that or i get the manifold cut and rewelded to get rid of the egr.

Hello Zpeople. I'm a recent 240Z owner, this baby has 40,000 miles on a rebuilt L28 engine with stock SU'S (rounded top) and automatic transmision. Can it be possible to match the performance of a L28 engine with standard transmision and EFI? My previuos Z was a '77 2+2 280 with std. tranny EFI, all stock. That car realy kick butt. The things that I don't like is the long body and big bumpers. Right now the L28 engine with SU'S in my 240z is way behind the performance that I loved of the 77 280z. What can I do to get better results.

So I need to acquire both a new full exhaust, and a new set of headers, as both of mine have little holes in them right below the floorboards...smelly. I have a 5/72 240z with the original engine, and my question is as follows. Is there any setup I can use on both my L24 and then transfer to an L28ET when I swap? I'm trying to get everything working fine and smooth/stylish on the car as it is now before I swap in the 5spd and L28ET. On that note, I'm trying to avoid custom work, too...$$$!

Summer is coming in las vegas where the temperature will go up to 115. I have no over heating problem but I want to have the engine to run cooler because I have A/C all the time. I installed this winter an original fan shroud which is supposed to help running cooler in traffic at idle. Is someone has other tips I can try to improve better idling in hot climate? Also, is someone has ever experienced isolating the gas lines to solve percolating problems? When it is very hot and after many stops and start again, the engine is harder to start and idle roughtly for some minutes. I suspect the gas is evaporating to fast in the carbs and and it idles better after when some coo…

With the price of gasoline creeping upwards and my new 1973 240Z slowly coming apart for a complete refreshing/updating, I had the wild thought last night of converting my fuel and induction system to run on E85, that is, motor fuel formulated with 85% ethanol. I'd rather not debate the pros and cons of ethanol here. I know that there are a lot of opinions out there, but the fact remains that we have a pretty high number of stations here in the upper Midwest that sell this fuel, and their numbers are increasing every day. Plus it is cheap - anywhere from $.50 to $.80 cheaper than regular unleaded. Have any of you guys ever heard of doing this? It seems that an old, car…

I searched the galleries and couldnt find any pics of the 432 exhaust plumbing (based on keywords people put in). Could someone post a pic of the underbody with a good view of how the twin pipes are arranged? Thanks in advance

since I rewired my Z it is running really poorly. It misfires very badly when cold and is only slightly better when warm. The power band totally goes flat at about 3000RPM. Timing is @ 7degrees. My mechanic friend and I were moving the timing around yesterday and it only improved slightly...I have the Pertronix ignition. I know the carbs aren't tuned to perfection, but I don't think it should run as poorly just because the carbs aren't just right. My friend recommended I should start by getting some new spark plugs and then we can start narrowing it down and get it running smoother. Any suggestions for where we should start looking for the problem? :classic:
